Not the VFN, but when I was doing the bodywork I considered integrating the headlight covers into the hood. The hood I used was open and had to be closed over, but I wanted to have the really stock look so did it the way it ended up. If I were doing it again though....

this is a great opportunity to modify the parts so they extend right to the glass and cover the gaps

maybe not easy to see in this photo bc of the reflection, the point at which the a pillar meets the dash

I like lacquer thinner for cleaner/prep. Don't douse it, just wipe it down, the thinner could actually eat a hole in this stuff if you leave it sit on there. now it's ready for the last trial fit in the car.

sanding carefully smoothes out the rough surface and gets rid of the glaze

Not only is the surface rough, but it also has a glaze on it. The smoother it is without the glaze, the better the adhesion. Just like bodywork, the real prep has to be under the finish coat.

after a wash down with a good degreaser, dont forget to wash down the underside, particularly where the upholstery adhesive has to do it's work.

these turned up edges exist all around the dash, and the edge is where the upholstery has to grab, so a flat edge works best
