1986 Sport Coupe: Wheel, trim, center cap, lug questions...
I have an 86 Sport Coupe, with the 14x7 generic steel rally wheels.
I have a few questions that hopefully someone can answer:
1) I'm getting my steel wheels repainted. The problem is with the round aluminum trim piece that goes on the outside of the wheel. It's all rusted behind it, and the wheel repair guy said he can't really do anything to spruce it up. He recommended I buy aftermarket replacements, which I'm happy to do, but I can't tell if there are any that are a good fit for this weird wheel. Wheel Vintiques claim they have one that will fit, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have an aftermarket source?
2) The center caps. I HATE THESE THINGS. They are a nightmare. The plastic center cap seems specific to only this year and model. I was able to find aftermarket replacements that are accurate, BUT, they are held in place by special GM lugs. Generic lugs don't hold these center caps in place. What are my options? Can I get completely different center caps to fit these wheels? Can I get the special lugs anywhere?
I want to keep the stock look of my car, but I'm so annoyed that these cheapo steel wheels have proprietary aluminum trim, plus one-off plastic center caps, PLUS special unique lug nuts. I'm ready to throw these wheels out the window.
Any help with these bizarro parts would be appreciated.
Thanks!
John

Here is a picture of the wheel I'm talking about. The center cap is missing from this pic. I have the original center cap, but the lugs in this picture will not hold it.

I have a 4 sets of the lug nuts and 4 of the beauty rings(the beauty rings are the plastic ones with a brushed aluminum look though, and i have a 4 or 5 center caps( a few of them need refurbishing since the clips broke on some spots) and even 4 of the actual steel wheels themselves, i replaced mine with iroc wheels, pm me if interested, everything is for sale

It's frustrating that huge amounts of these cars were produced, but this weird combination of wheel/beauty ring/center cap/lugs is so rare and hard to find.

Was there a difference between the 84 center caps and the ones on your 86? The original caps on my 84 are not held in place by the lugs at all....just the crappy plastic clips on the caps themselves.
I grabbed the caps and rings off another 84 in a scrap yard years ago, so I have some spares...But all 84 style.
