255/50-16 tires

I found these Sigma Mirada Sport GTX 255/50 R16s for 121 per tire. That's more than 200 less per set than BFG Sport Comp IIs. Anyone know anything about them?

Re: 255/50-16 tires

First, Discount Tire Direct has the 255-50-16 BFG G-Force Sports at $138, including shipping.

Second, no idea about those tires, but $121 a tire is a lot for a non name brand in that size - you can get the BFG in 245-50-16 for $119 each at DTD...

Re: 255/50-16 tires

First, I'm doing everything I can to avoid buying any more 16" tires. My current tires are dry-rotted to the point that I'm not comfortable driving my car, though, so I need to either get my new 17" wheels and tires, or do something about the 16"s.

Within the next 3-4 months, I am hopeful that someone will be coming out with larger versions of the GTA crosslace wheel. That is a promise that has been broken many times, by many people, though, so who knows?

If that doesn't happen, I'm probably going to put some 16" tires on the car, and just take the hit when I finally (if ever) am able to get the wheels I want.

Second, the BFG G-Force is probably more tire than I want, or need. The first set of tires I put on my car were the old G-Force sport comps. I run staggered sizes (you can't rotate the wheels front-to-back, anyway), and only got 18,000 miles out of the back tires. 24,000 out of the front.

If I buy another set of 16" tires, I'm going to buy 4 front GTA wheels, and put the same size on them so they can be rotated. I also prefer an all-weather tire, rather than a summer-only tire.

Multi Mile apparently has the same tire: http://www.multimiletires.com/tires/...on=Performance

I can get those for 111.00 apiece.

Also, I want 255/50R16, not 245/50R16.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet, but I think there might be more than a few 3rd Genners interested in a 50,000 mile, all weather tire that fits their stock rims.

Re: 255/50-16 tires

If I were you, I'd run the BF Goodrich all season in the 245 size. The difference between 245 and 255 is tiny. A wee bit wider. A wee bit taller. But after 1 day of owning the car I'm pretty much certain that you'd never notice the difference.

All season will definitely last longer than summer tires.

I have 4 GTA wheels with the differing size deal, although all same sized tires (245/50/16). Once in awhile I'll have Discount Tire rotate the tires. It means they have to remove the tires from the wheels and rebalance them. But it's no charge to me. (I specifically make them note that it will be no charge to do all this whenever I buy a set of tires). In fact, the last time I was there, the guy was taking the mileage down and told me that my wheels were backwards (Front on back, back on front). I said no they're not. So he bet me a cold drink in their vending machine. Sure enough, when the wheels came off and he saw that it said FRONT on the inside of the front wheels, he gave me my dollar and I thoroughly enjoyed the cold drink on a hot day.

Maybe. I've been running 245s on the front, and 255s on the rear since 2003, and looking at it right now, I can still see a difference.

Re: 255/50-16 tires

Also, The G-Force Super Sport A/S is 126.00 (only 3.00 less than the Sport Comp). That's only 16.00 per tire more than the Multi Mile Mirada, but the Super Sport A/S is a 35,000 mile tire, while the Multi Mile is a 50,000 mile tire. That calculates out to be a pretty significant difference in cost per mile.

Re: 255/50-16 tires

I run 245 front and 255 rears as well. BFG GeForce Sport Comp 2's. I can see a major difference between the two as well. Looks a ton better. Performance wise, it probably makes no difference but mine is a show car and it looks better so I went with it. I think I payed $550 at TireRack.com for my 245/255 staggered set. The 245's do rub my front sway bar when just about at the right or left steering end lock but that's not a huge concern.
