Article on lightweight wheels - good read for all

Just wanted to post this article from the most recent (June 2013) issue of Excellence Magazine for Porsche vehicles:

The emphasis was on the Carbon Revolution full CF wheels and more importantly how a lower weight wheel can help a vehicle's performance.

Nope...

I can't imagine a third gen owner paying $15k+ for a set of wheels. Although the 911 crowd seems to live for stupidly expensive things!

At the price point our present wheels are at - no.

But our manufacturer is coming out with a new 1pc fully forged wheel (actually forged billet) that may have an application. Don't know the cost or the price that it would be sold at - but is on my radar for at least the 4th gen cars (and late C4 Vettes).

I bet R&D costs for something like that would skyrocket very, very quickly. Probably several hundred thousand dollars.

CF needs to be "cured" in an autoclave at a minimum; thinking that wheels would have even more expensive steps to make them durable.

I would think $2 to $4M in R&D and pre-production costs to make something like this happen - not to mention the liability insurance would be sky high at best.
