1988 GTA Stock 16inch rim tire size
I have been looking at different tire sizes in this thread, and doing as much research as possible, but i thought i would go ahead and ask this question anyway. I lowered by car with the eibach pro kit, i dont know if that makes a difference, but just so you all know. I read that 255/50/r16 is the max tire size you can do for the front, but i was wondering if it would be possible to do the previously mentioned tire size in the front, and a much thicker tire in the back, so i guess the question im asking is, do you all have any thick tire size recommendations for the two back tires? links would also be helpful

245-50-16 is the factory size for those wheels. But the problem is that availability in that size is extremely limited today - only 3 different performance patterns are available now.
You can fit a much larger tire than a 255 on the front - but you would need new wheels to do it. A few people on this board are running a 295-35-18 tire on their 3rd gens.

295 is way to wide for rthe stock wheel.
Stick with 245/50/16's. You can get BFG G Force in this size, awsome street tire for a driver.

Re: 1988 GTA Stock 16inch rim tire size
i have been reading alot on the forums about tire sizes, and there are alot of members that say they are running the 295s on the stock wheel and making it work, i do not want to go with 245s, because the way my y pipe comes down in the front it is just a couple inches from the ground, and i can not get over speed bumps without scraping it, so i definitely want some more clearance from the ground

Ask BFG if you Should run a 295 on a 16"x8" wheel.
What y pipe are you running? I had hedman on mine, lowered with 225's on the front, y pipe was no lower than the crossmember.

I have seen 295's on the 91/92 16" Camaro wheels and they looked ok and fit, but man the side walls were sucked in. I have Yokahama 245/50/16's on my PW7 and love them.

Re: 1988 GTA Stock 16inch rim tire size
My gta had 255's on it when I got it and they rubbed like crazy. I have lowered the car with sportline springs and will be going with 245's when I get replacement tires. Eventually I will step up to a 18" rim. Probably CCW 18x8/8.5 front and 18x10/10.5 on the rear.

Was it only rubbing on one side? I've been using 255's on the rear, and 245's on the front for years. Never any issues. Do you have an adjustable pan hard bar?

Just the fronts. Yea, I have all the suspension goodies. Koni's, springs, all new bushings, founders chamber plates, umi stuff throughout the rear. Only thing not new is the front lower control arms.
