Is this a dumb question? Iroc Wheels on a Firebird
K, So the reason I even ASK is cuz at 215 70 r15's that I have on right now, rub when the wheels cranked, and I'v learned that stock iroc 16's mount a 245 50 r16,
So I'm asking the educatated populace that has done this before, and I know the answer is likely "No! They won't RUB, Read the damn sticky!!"
but I'm going to ask anyway, is a set of 245/50/R16 Iroc rims going to rub one out on my 1989 base firebird?

the wheel mounting points are the same on every 3rd gen, with the expection of the 1le cars. They have a thicker front hub and the wheel will move out about 5/16 over the standard front brakes.
There is a difference in the length of the steering stop on teh control arm between cars with the 15" and 16" wheel, so the stop will not be perfect on your base car, allowing you to turn the wheel further than the factory intended you to in a car with 16" wheel from the factory.
that said, there are thousands of people out there with the factory 16" wheels and tires on a standard model car witout issue. You may have a slight rub at full lock, but nothing to worry about. I have done it, and still do it on one of my cars.
My opinion? camaro wheels do not look right on a firebird.

Hahah, ya the straight 5 star's don't match the curves on a bird. I'v got studded winters on right now, so I'm getting them more for the tires that are mounted on them. Turns out they'r not the stock iroc size anyway. 225's, so they should fit perfect. Could end up looking funny if they'r really low, but I figure anything over a 50 should be good. A free set of 205's thrown in. He's also selling a pair of seats out of a 4th gen that I'm going to snag, since the ones in my car have seen they'r day.
Thanks for the info, on a totally different subject, how do you like the 3.1 in your 92? I'm a big fan of the 60' V6, one of the big selling points of the car I bought was the engine.
