215x50x16's on stock wheels
Hey guys,
I've had a replacement set of the above tires for my 92 camaro(B4C) and just today was trying to put them on and was the first time I put em side by side. The original 245's look to be about 1 1/2" wider that the 215's, which makes sense - 30mm is about that.
Anyway, took em to the shop and the guy didn't recommend stretching the tires out on these rims. He didn't think the bead would catch and even if it did, he wasn't sure if it was same to ride that way.
Has anyone tried this or know if it'll work(safely)?
thanks

Re: 215x50x16's on stock wheels
At one drift I attended, I saw guys running 205/50s on 16x8s, but they were running over 50 psi of air in them. And not on F-cars.
But the bigger issue is load rating. 215/50R16s are rated for up to 1323 pounds each. That's really pushing your luck for the fronts. The lowest-rated stock size was rated up to 1565.
Also, they're going to look stupid-small.
I'd sell them. The cheapest size that's a proven fit is a 225/60R16.

Thanks Dark,
The b4c's(or z28's) might have wider rims which is why they spec'd the 245's. Either way, i'm going to price a new set or try to find a decent used set.

Re: 215x50x16's on stock wheels
245/50 or 235/55 is the stock tire size, 225/60 would work but thats pretty narrow I think, I have 245/45/16 on the front of mine and 255/50/16s on the back. Personally I wouldn't go any narrower than a 235 on the front and a 245 on the back.
And also that 215/50 is only like a 22-22.5inch tall tire. So you'd have major fender gap and the fron of your car would dive atleast an inch not to mention handle like poo.

Re: 215x50x16's on stock wheels
well acording to my door sticker the factory size for my camaro is 225/55/r16, now i have a RS i do not now if the tire size would change for the b4cs 1les or z28s.
i actually put some 225/60s on it and it handles the same, just lil bit higher from the ground.
i think the 215s would be kinda small and would strech to reach the rim sides but they should be fine. the 50 part means itll be lower to the ground

Re: 215x50x16's on stock wheels
the 215 would handle decent but there would be almot no flex and it would ride like crap. beacue theyd have the same sideway of a Honda civic, if you were to end up going with a 215/225 probably should go with a 60 series for the 215 or a 55 for the 225, I still recomend not going smaller width wise than stock unless you have fatties and skinnies.

Re: 215x50x16's on stock wheels
A 215/50 isn't really any shorter of a sidewall than any of the popular 18" tire sizes have. So ride quality should be relatively good.
It really isn't so much of a stretch when you consider that 225/50 tires on 16x8" wheels were standard on all the FD RX7s, and the rear of the '87-'88 Mitsu Starion / Chrysler Conquest TSI.
