91 Firebird P215/65R15
Just bought a 91 convertible. IT has P215/65R15 on it now. I need to buy some tires. What tires are best for that size and is that the right size because tire rack sure dont have much of a selection for that tire.
Thanks

Firestone indy 500's are great tires, and michelin makes some 900 tread wear tires that are supposed to be amazing.

yeah i guess i can do that. i never did that though how do they look?
is 215 65 15 the right size the car should have?
and a stupid question... I know the 15 is the wheel size but what do the other number mean?

They look fine. They are made to go either way
215 is the width, 65 means the distance from the rim to the outside of the tire is 65% of the width

tire rack says the my car should have 235 60 15. right now it has stock 15" wheels with 215 65 15. are they interchangable? where do i find the spec on what the car should of had from the factory?

The factory put on 215. Not why tire rack says different, but 235 is very interchangable. It's just a little wider

is there any advantage to going with the 235's? or should i just stick with whats on the car? and going from a 65 to a 60 would mean the tire has a slight lower profile i guess then. wouldnt that throw off the speedometer?

Re: 91 Firebird P215/65R15
remember the 60 is a percentage of the width. 65% 215 is practically the same as 60% of 235, so the speedometer is the same for both
here's a very helpful site.. it shows you the differences of what tire sizes do for your speedometer, among other things
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
235 are just a little wider. they actually are designed for a 7" rim, and the 215's are designed for a 6.5, so in theory they should be more correct. Some people think they bulge a little, but I think they look great.
the downside is they are a much harder size to find in stock
