Yeah about 4 or 5 months ago. I had an 88 I was building saw this one and had to have it. It was what I was going to build for half the cost. This car just needed a rear and suspension and it now has that.

They look wicked, expecially if you powdercoated them flat black, but when I took of the 18"s the guy had on my camaro and put the stock 16" back on its handeling when from like a 7/10 to a 9/10. Just saying.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
Just put on 2012 18" 5th gen wheels with 245/40/18 tires on my 87 LT, I used 1.5"/38mm adapters all the way around, and have very minor rubbing on sharp turns in my passenger side wheel well, I think I damaged that wheel well with a big rock when I was driving down some logging roads a year ago but it seems to be correcting itself slowly everyday I drive it....I might need to get 1.75" spacers for it to be perfect.

FINALLY!! someone actually put on those wheels iv talked about forever ago (because of how they reminded me of the 85-87 iroc wheels). i made a thread a while back about these, but that looks great, but would look killer if accented like the iroc wheels

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
For the record 18" wheels with the right tires improves handling over 16" wheels with the 50 series tires you see a lot of peeps rocking...I feel the perfect balance of performance and looks, not too big and not too small. I've had both sizes of wheels and tires on my car and the traction I get from my new 245/40/18 tires is amazing. I have a hard time breaking the tires loose even at high speeds around corners and under hard acceleration. I'm going to have to add a lot more power to my car before traction is going to be an issue hehe.

One of the import mags did an in depth test years ago.
The problem is the wheels start getting so heavy, and you loss too much sidewall.
Just look at any actual race car. Not many of them running 18"s or bigger.

Those 18's look amazingly well, good job with them. Everyone here is running the 20" Camaro rims. To me they are kinda out played maybe I may get those 18's instead....lol

Actually, 17" is about as big as you can go before the law of dimishing returns sets in. If you compare the wheels with the same overall tire hieght and width.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
Thanks for the compliments claRmOaCrZo and Karl. If your interested in getting the same type I managed to pick them up off of craigslist for really cheap. The guy I got them from wanted 500 o.b.o for the wheels and 3 almost brand new bfg's 245/55/18 tires. I offered him $360 cash and I stayed firm...after 5 min he agreed on the price and I was on my way
After realizing that a 55 series tire would be too tall I sold those tires on craigslist for $125 each which covered the initial cost of the wheels and tires. I did some more searching on craigslist and found 4 used directional Michelin sport a/s tires with around 50% tread and picked those up for $200 bucks for the set.
The adapters cost about $120 for a set of 4 and I got those off ebay.
Long story short I paid $320 bucks+time for a 5th gen wheel conversion with decent tires, so for all you guys out there thinking about doing this setup its actually pretty cheap if you take your time looking for a good deal.

Re: 3rd gen camaro with 5th gen wheels - pics
I would have gone with 1.75"/44mm adapters if I knew there was going to be a lil rubbin, I went with the 1.5" because I knew the new wheels were +38mm offset which is 1.5" so In theory I figured they would fit perfect. As for the rubbing I barely notice it and its going away day by day...Im not sure if the rubbing is from damage to the wheel well or 1.5" adapters wont work all the way around...if that's the case any of you guys doing this same setup go with the 1.75" adapters just be safe.
I'm going to keep my 1.5" adapters just because of the pain it would be to send them back and get a 1.75" set...no one notices the rubbing except for me and like I said before I barley notice it now. I live in Vancouver, Canada and I buy my parts in the states so its a lot of work to change them out.

Turbo, what brand spacers did you use and where did you purchase them from. Sorry if you mentioned this and I did not read it. Did the 18 make your car sit higher? I want to lift my car to a stock car height to eliminate speed bump rubbing on my transmission oil pan.

I don't remember what brand they are, but I got them cj bargins on ebay I believe. The car definitely sits higher with the 18's and 40 series tires cant wait to color match and powder coat the wheels...I was thinking of lowering it 1" as well but that all has to wait though till I have my transmission built I cant stand the stock shift times with the 700r4...

I have been reading through and I just want to double check what I have been reading. The 5th gen 20's will fit with stock front hubs and stock rear end as long as you stick with the 2" spacers? Also if the Camaro is at stock height it should still clear with the stock tires that come on the 5th gen wheels?

Sure an 18" or 19" may look better and actually feel better, but a 17" will faster and more forgiving on a 3rd gen.

Thats a really clean look too! did those rims mate up to the lugs or were there extra parts involved like spacers? I'm running 15'' inkeys and though I'd go with a protouring look with the 12' ss maro rims.

What lug nuts were u guys using?? Cuz all the adapters I have seen are 12mm by 1.5?? I emailed cj bargains and ask if could get them 14mm by 1.5. First thing he said the camaro rim will not fit. Just trying to keep the nice camaro lug nuts. Thanks for the great pics and advice about the adapters.

I recommend these guys and quality are way better then ebay and I feel safer getting these than Ebays
If they don't have the size listed just call and will custom make them for you
You can also get then hub and wheel centric which I recommend

Just use these guys ^^ . Cost me about $325 but the quality is great. Custom built to be exact. Great customer service. I called in and the guy took my order and made them. These guys are experts. He Knew the right size and everything, comes with new lug nuts. I would post pics of spacer but I don't know how.

Thanks for the compliments, I bought the spacers from heavy duty parts on ebay, But im not sure what you mean by hub centric. I had no clearance issues with the hubs front or rear. The lugs to mount the spacers came with them and I used the factory lugs from my iroc wheels to mount the wheels to the spacers.

I have eBay ones also and IMHO I just don't trust them and comparing side by side

Hub centric = spacer fits tightly to wheel hub
Wheel centric = spacer fits tightly to whelp center bore
Hub dia. Is 70.3
Most wheels center bores today are around 73 IIRC
Hub and wheel centric makes up that difference so there's a tight fit

do the spacers mount up like they should?
did you buy the right bolt pattern?
do you have any rust on the hub causing them to not fit?
you need to give more details on your setup.

Ok the rim goes in the hub, but by the looks of it i would need bigger spacers than 2 inch and i would need longer studs, i will try to post a pic to show you what i mean.

You are literally trying to use 2" SPACERS? You need to be using adapters. When you order the adapters make sure the wheel size is 5x120mm instead of our stock 5x4.75".

you don't need longer studs .. That would be dangerous ..with 2 " spacer

5x120mm is the metric equivalent to 5x4.75. It's the exact same size.

Its not 'EXACTLY' the same but its close enough for most
CJ Bargins on ebay are good peeps to deal with, I always use them for my spacer needs.
