irocs painted black not grey?

Hello, I have some irocs that need to be repaired and reconditioned and I came across some pictures on the web of some pristine looking Iroc's. My question is the color of the center stripes and such. They look grey on my rims and on most pics I've seen. But I found a pic of some that had black instead of grey. I'm wondering if they came black from the factory and faded, a lot, to the grey or if someone painted them black on purpose? And if so, has anyone on here done that? Any thoughts for being mounted on a black car? Looks nice in the pics. I'm just wondering what color I should tell the shop when I have mine restored.

The wheels in the above pic were painted. The OE's are silver (grayish) and gold.

Re: irocs painted black not grey?

ok, thats what i was thinking, that they were grey. thanks. has anyone seen something like this in person? I agree they look good on a black car, I'm just wondering if, once seen in person, its too much. Too dark, too much black, too much of a contrast, or if it does look as good as the pic of the car?

One of my former students painted his wheels black to match his black IROC. Personally, I thought the look was darned bad .

Re: irocs painted black not grey?

I think having the black accent vs the gray on a black car will look awesome!

I want to do that to my 91 Z wheels, but they are excellent condition so I don't want to strip them down. Eventually I will find another set to do it to.

Re: irocs painted black not grey?

i have a set like that on my car, black instead of grey. i must tell you, it looks amazing. espically with a black car, like mine. but i think it would still look amazing with any other color. the grey just didnt cut it for me, my buddy had grey ones on his black IROC, and they looked good, but not as good as if they were black.

Re: irocs painted black not grey?

yeah, same size as my stock rims, so i believe that would be 16x8, if anyone wants to correct me, go for it. i just went from 235/55R16's to 245/50R16's.

cool. yeah thats exactly what i was wanting to hear. can you post some pics of yours, especially ones of them on the car?

and to answer question of rim size, yes those are 16x8 and they fit. The IROCs and GTAs were 16x8 and have different back spacing for front and rears, thats how they fit. 245/50R16 was original tire size, atleast i'm pretty sure about that size.

Re: irocs painted black not grey?

no problem. i got those off craigslist, and the PO had already painted them black. they were a pretty good deal so i got them. when i get the money im going to get the stripped down, and polished, and where it is black now is going to be professionally painted by then, and then clear coated. it will look sick. and then all the lights are going to get murdered out.

Re: irocs painted black not grey?

thats my plan too. the ones i have are in desperate need of repairing and restoring, so when they go to repaint the grey i'll have them do black instead.
