ride way too bumpy for me
ok i installed bilstein struts and shocks.
my ride is way too bumpy. its stiff and handles great
but i get the feeling if i can swap out just the rear shocks with something else
maybe i can have a less bumpy ride when theres imperfections in the road.
so what brand or style would be a good swapout in the rear shocks that will give me a more comfortable ride without loosing too much handling?
i already got new bushings, sway bar links, wonder bar and all that jazz just tired of feeling like a bomb went off whenever im driving down a crappy road or a few cracks in the road

Re: ride way too bumpy for me
"Feeling" is a subjective thing.
I have 17" wheels, 35 series tires, rod ends for all the rear suspenshion (except the shocks), wonderbar, STB, WS6 springs(for now) & I don't feel mine is that bad. I know others might not like it but.....

This isn't exactly about the "ride" persay, BUT....
Reducing interior noise and rattles will make the ride feel so much better. Just a thought, but some sound deadener might be the solution you're looking for. It gives the perception of a nicer ride because the car doesn't sound like it's falling apart

Re: ride way too bumpy for me
yea ive been wanting to do SFC for a long time now. but its seems like installing them is alot like everything else.
the labor is more than the damn part
what kind of a shop is the best choice to install them? if i do it i want them welded in.
so my problem isnt the rear shocks? i can keep them if i get SFC?
i have NASCAR material under my carpet for sound deadener, but didnt have enough for under the plastic panels.
the stuff at best buy or sound shops are freakin rediculous for sound deadener way too pricey its gota be cheaper somewhere. 200 for just the trunk is stupidly pricey

Re: ride way too bumpy for me
but regaurdless about the sound of my car falling apart. i nearly bounce out of my damn seat when i hit a real good bump or just the BAM BANG sound when i hit a pothole or crack in the road is enough to **** me off everytime
its not like im driving through a war zone but it feels like it.
i'm talking about doin 35-45 down regular roads and hell even at 25 its a loud noise when i run over something so simple
on the highway its a dream..... until i go through a conrstuction site haha
the car is tight and straight as an arrow, corners great and handels great,
but god help me when i run into a road not perfect

Re: ride way too bumpy for me
Are your rear sway links broken. Improperly installed shocks would make noise. The bumpy or stiffness feeling is normal and you always tell them to drive a while for them to wear in.

Re: ride way too bumpy for me
Did you swap out the springs for new as well, or just the shocks? Someone better than me will have to comment, but if the old worn springs are still there, with brand new shocks/struts - maybe that's the issue. The shocks just adjust the recoil of the springs - the springs is what makes a good or bad ride (as I understand it). Bad shocks means the car bounces many times after hitting a bump, because the bad shocks aren't dampening the recoil from the springs quickly enough.
I don't know - it was a thought - let us know if you have the same worn out springs, and maybe a better knowledge will chime in.

Re: ride way too bumpy for me
about a yr or two ago me and my father replaced front and rear sway bar links
replaced rear springs, did the bushings for front and rear sway bars
installed blistein struts and shocks.
its always done this i just figured its what i get for for putting in super duper racing parts instead of just street stuff, but i wanted parts to last and i never wanted to do shocks and struts again.
this car is my daily driver in the summer and fall.
its parked for the winter now and just trying to figure out what i should do while its parked
i guess i could check to see if the rear shocks are not properly installed.
not sure, onyl thing i can tihnk of is the nut on top isnt screwed down far enough but i stopped when my father told me to stop so i'm not sure
i always figured it was this bumpy because these are very stiff shocks and struts

Re: ride way too bumpy for me
The opposite of what I said earlier is true, if you rip out all of your carpet and sound deadener you would be amazed at how much "rougher" your car seems to ride.
I was just trying to offer another way to possibly handle the problem without having to swap out expensive, new suspension components

Re: ride way too bumpy for me
That is (most likely) bad hinges on the doors, noised caused by the sloppy hinges allowing the door to move up & down slightly & your hearing the latch hitting the striker.
Mine was sounding like that, them I drove around my neighborhood, holding the door open....Rattle gone!

Re: ride way too bumpy for me
I got the south side machine sub frame connectors. So it has always been bumpy? That changes everything. Did it do it before after the springs? The bushings for the shock should be spread a little bit farther out than the washer. Did you install the spacers correctly on the bottom of the shock?
