225's on 8 inch wheels?
hey guys. i have a set of GTA rims that need tires, i plan on getting the wheels refinished and putting new tires on next winter, but for now i have a set of potenza runflats size 225/50/16's, i know 235's work fine on the 8 inch rims, but is 225 going to be an issue?

Hi Guys,
Don't know if it helps you but I've got 15" cast alloys (I think they were standard on the V6?) but the tyres are 225/60R15 :-)

No they wont. I would go with a 245 50 16 though...just looks a bit meaner but if you already have the 225s then you might as well.

Re: 225's on 8 inch wheels?
factory stadard tire size on 91-92 Trans Ams was 215/50/16.
So 225s will fit fine.
However---it will hurt in the looks dept and the handling will suffer. Just get some 245's

Re: 225's on 8 inch wheels?
well i'm a bit short on the cash dept, and i have 225's already. but yea the last set of tires i had were some ol 245/50 eagle gsc's and they do give it an aggressive look for sure. gonna have to wait till winter to get new tires or untill the camaro sells.
thanks guys i think the modern potenza's compared to the old eagle's might be a wash despite 20 less mm of tread on all four.

Re: 225's on 8 inch wheels?
heh did i mention the potenzas are RE050's? i think i got the right designation but after a search i find they are quite, expensive, i got mine cheap from my ol' job. i doubt i'll even see a drop in performance considering re050's vs the ol' gsc's

You'll be fine with 225's on 8". Expect sharper turn-in response and a slightly stiffer ride.

Re: 225's on 8 inch wheels?
i kind of figured, seeing as the sidewall will be more flush and less meaty with the narrower tread. can't wait, the new car the rims and tires will be going on has had addco swaybars installed and unlike my gta, it's bushings aren't shot and neither are the shocks. even if i lose all that torque and a lil horsepower the car ought to maintain speed better into and through the turn.
