Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

Thanks guys. I love them. The fronts do track (pull when they grab intersection lines and road reflectors) but I have gotten used to it. I dont know where these wheels came from cause I bought them from a guy who bought them new and never mounted tires on them. The boxes said OE wheel distributors in Sarasota Florida. They were ordered that custom size i think.
The fronts i had to grind down a lot the outter tie rods to fit the wheels. I also had to notch the front struts cause the edge would hit. I cant use my coilovers but I will just put them on the other car. It was either get rid of the coil overs and install dropped springs or run coilovers and be forced to space out the rims an additional 2.5 inches. I am really picky about that. I absolutely hate the look of nice wheels that stick out past the plastic inner splash gaurd on the top of the fender. It looks horrible when people do that and on here there is a ton of members who have it that way.
Front and rear spacers are 1.25 inches. I added .25 inches to front so that i can turn to the bump stop. Rims are 54 mm back spacing.
Hope that helps guys. I will get pics up on saturday of it on cement.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

right on
i think the biggest i want to go in the fronts is x9 just for the sake of driving it every day, only sizes ive seen have been 8.5 and 9.5 in the repro wheels tho, but those have those awful rivets on them.
i want either x9.5 or x10 out back for sure
ya i definitly love the look of those wheels on that car
what do you plan on doing about the headlight buckets? i think when i go white im going to paint them black, looks ****in evil
----------
i have to admit tho im putting in another vote for just 16" stock 2 stripe iroc wheels. Only reason i even want to replace my rims is because i want something bigger, love the way these look tho

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

I love those wheels too...I think that look awesome on a firebird/TA it,s so hard to find just the right wheel for a TA, many wheels look good on a camaro but only a select few would look good on my car. I think those are Boze mesh wheels. The center looks alittle different to me though...I know boyd coddington make some wheels that look like that also maybe they are those?

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

exactly! 5x120...our pattern is 5x120.65 but it doesnt hurt anything. I put them on myself in my driveway and just made sure they were put on very evenly and then I drove it and retorqued it.

I bought them off of ebay from a ADR supplier. They were advertising them for BMWs and 4th Gens so they shouldnt be fwd only. (also they come in 19x9.5 so they def arent FWD only) I bought a set with 35mm offset and used 1.25" adapters up front and 1" on the rear...they tuck my 295 30 19s BEAUTIFULLY.

They can be bought in 18x8 18x8.5 and 19 etc. I dont think they come in 17" however believe me 18s all around looks really pretty too. I dont know the warehouse I bought them from anymore bc it was like 2 years ago when I purchased. Believe it or not, I got my set slightly discounted at $900 shipped to my door!

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

They probably arent part of ADRs newer wheel line ups so finding a set might be difficult...just keep searching and surely someone still has some in the back of their warehouse

I actually heard from alot of people it does matter...it is not the correct bolt pattern. I wonder though if they make adaptors from 5x4.75 to 5x120.65?

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

well I believe that I am proof that it doesnt. Ive worked at Discount Tire for 3.5 years and I mounted the wheels with plenty of knowledge of what i was doing. You are talking about .65mm, i think someone put it best when they said...if you had your wheels overtorqued 10 ft lbs it would open the holes up by .65mm.

However, adaptitusa.com has plenty of adapters that change bolt patterns but you pay 2x the price of regular adapters. For saftey sake, I would recommend going with adaptitusa.com if you are concerned, but I have absolutely ZERO trouble.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

What are your exact wheel sizes? 19" x what And 18" by what? 35mm offset on front and back? 295 30 19's in the back what size tires are you running in the front? Do you have any clearence issues? Sorry for asking so many questions but I have a black TA also and that is the exact look and stance I am after, you hit it right on the money big time. 120.65mm F**k it I will give it a try, the reason I said its the wrong size is because other wheel manufactures said they would not work?

Scroll up, there's a bunch more that he posted.

As a side note, I went to their web-site and they only make 17x7's in a 4x100 pattern. The 5x120 is only in 18" and larger wheels. I'd love a set of 17's for my car, I wonder if they do custom orders. Hmm...

Do you have any problems with rubbing on your front tires when turning the front wheel from left to right, full lock to full lock?

No rubbing issues whatsoever...i did remove my fender liner though...

I still dont think i would have any troubles with them in there, I just dont drive it often enough to need the liners.

Actually, although they look similar (and still kind of cool), the Crager SS spokes are a lot fatter.

And are there any rims like these (some type of Halibrands I think) that would fit a 3rd gen Firebird?:

I have ALWAYS loved those wheels! I saw them once on a Camaro way back in 95. The car had the rear window louvers, was metallic forest green with black racing stripes. Absolutely awsome car. Had a built 350 in it as I recall. Anyway, what type are they? I've always wondered because when I finally got my T/A I thought about those wheels and started looking but could never find them anywhere.

Those are Magnum 500 wheels or knockoffs of them, they were used on everything in the late 60’s/early 70’s with polyglass wide oval tires…

If you want Magnum 500’s with wider spokes get some Keystone Klassics, Crager bought them out a few years back and started making them again. I always liked those on the late 60’s mustangs better then the “correct” magnum 500’s.

Edelbrock made some that looked similar a few years ago that you might find, American racing makes them as a cobra knockoff wheel in a ford bolt pattern but I’m pretty sure a speed shop that is an American racing dealer can order them with a GM bolt pattern (4.75x5 vs the ford 4.5x5) through American’s custom shop. If that doesn’t get you there, there are also a few companies doing knockoffs of them and will drill them for any pattern, but only in modern sizes. The owner of a speed shop that I worked for had a set that he’s running on his second gen TA, I could probably get you in touch with him, but I’m pretty sure that it will fall under the “not worth the hassle” category since there were some quality control issues and other problems with the company doing the casting/machining (we intended to carry them but decided not to after dealing with the issues).

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

haha, I bought the car like how it was. I've been wondering my self what rims they were, alot of people loved them and wanted to know. happy some one knows what they are :-)
there was some pretty neat things about this car when I got it. has true duel exhaust, and this really bad *** glasspacks.. but I could never figure out what they were, they didnt had no logo or something on them, thier both blue..
I'll post a vid of my car revin exhaust topics later.
its a 91 RS. it has a 305 in it :-( but Im hoping eventually I can put money aside for a 350 engine. also has a five speed manual.
I think my rim size is either 14 or 15's... I'll have to check sometime.
(btw, Im sure American Racing makes them, cause I have those center caps in the middle of the wheels, back ones says american racing, and the front says racing)

EDIT: hmm, well, I've searched and havent seen them yet, but im still looking for a site that sells the exact ones

those wheels haven't been sold for years... they were ARE's and I think that Eagle or someone made knock offs of them.

Thanks for all the help...I just wish they made them with gold/copper/bronze finishes too instead of just polished/chrome.

That Camaro is sweet, What is the paint color? I am going to paint my car and get some ADR Stern face 3's. They are sick!

I went to these websites:
http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/wheels.asp
http://www.performanceplustire.com/

And didn't find a single 14" or 15" rim for a 92 Firebird that had a gold/bronze/etc. finish as an option. I'm pretty much looking for the same exact rims as those in the picture.

Just in general, are there ANY rims that have a goldish color and could fit on a '92 Firebird? Unless I'm looking wrong, I can't find any even on eBay (I'm looking for 5x120.7 / 5x4.75 bolt pattern, width of 8").

And BTW, what would be the best tire size for 14" or 15" rims (to make them old-school style)?

The American Racing "Cobra" is about as close to the style of wheel you're looking for that I've found. As for a 14 or 15 inch wheel?

195/75-14 for the 14 inch should be about right and a 215/65-15 for the 15 inch. Anyone else disagree or should that be pretty close for those wheel sizes that he's looking for?

No, I agree that they look alike (I like them), I'm just disappointed that I can't find any with a gold finish.

Ask the company if they'll paint them for you. That's how most of the off colors (anything other than chrome or brushed/polished) get done.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

Thanks, I didn't know that. Typically, does it cost a lot more to do, or is it just something like $50 more per rim?

I've never personally had it done so I couldn't say.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

You can get wheels powerdercoated or have a body shop paint them any color you want.

As far as 15’s go, I think that the absolute best looking combination on 3rd gens is 235/60/15’s on the front with 0 offset and 255/60/15’s on the back with 3/8-5/8” offset in…

Yep. We had these centers painted at the same time of the stripes, by the body shop.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

Thanks, I've saved all those numbers. When you say 235 or 255, I'm guessing you're saying tire width, correct? And what does the offset mean?

And kind of on-topic, what are some old-school looking tires that aren't slicks (so they're capable of daily driving dry, rain, or snow, but have text on the side to make them looking like drag slicks)?

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

I like the chrome IROC 18" reproductons, but they only come in 8" wide. I had them, but once the chrome started peeling a little, it was time for an overhaul (the whole car! LOL). I went with chrome C6 wheels this time, they are a five spoke and come in many different widths and diameters. The 18x9.5 tuck nicely on a lowered car with no rubbing even with a 285 or 295 if the correct spacer is used to get the back spacing just right.

correct on the numbers. 255 refers to the width in millimeters.

what about tires like these?
