What's the brand of your multimeter ?
Im thinking about getting one of these guys .What's a good brand ? or what NOT to get ? Thanx

I have a cheapie $10 one from http://www.harborfreight.com ; I forget the name. It's the exact same model that a coworker paid $30 for! It might be cheap, but it does the job; plus, it's cheap enough so if I ever drive over it, I won't cry about it. The premier name in multimeters is Fluke- but be prepared to shell out $150 for a "medium" one.
My analog one at home is a $70 Radio Shack one from, oh, about 10 years ago, I guess. I bought that when I was into robotics (me? yeah, me). It's just been gathering dust since then... it's a nice unit. I should probably throw a dust bag over it.![Big Grin](https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
One with a continuity tester is nice; but if you can't afford/find one like that, you can use the resistance settings to determine continuity. (0 ohms = continuity, no reading/high reading = short).

Yeah Fluke is the best, but they cost a bit more then others. The nice thing about flukes is that they are calibrated much better then any other brand. Also some modles come with a calibration waranty. For some thing like a year or so they will recalibrate it for free.

Yeah Tom , I saw one of those in my harborfreight paper today . i was wondering how good it was lol . I dont need the best one right now .I just want one that works pretty good and is pretty accurate . I can relate to running over things . I ran over my sony cd player before I had my in dash unit lol It kept playing but my cd was shot

I agree, Fluke makes quality DVOM's. If you're looking for a cheaper brand, Craftsman has a bunch in the $40-$70 range. I don't have any experience with them but Craftsman is a reputable name.

I have a sunpro DVM. it does hi & low tach, dwell, volts & amps, continuity, & ohms. got it free (med length stroy) but equivalent costs around $70. & yeah, fluke is best, but $$$$$$$$$$$$

otc is a good dvom I think there about $150 but real worth unless you gonna be a technician the fluke really isent the way togo what ever meter you get make sure the internal resistance of the meter is 10m ohm

Well , Im ganna go look for the '' how to change a cap and rotor" article that ya wrote . I'm going to go ahead and change my cap rotor and maybe ignition module . I dont wanna wait till next wed when my multimeter comes in b/c I have test next week .I need to know my car will get me there !

the multimeter i have is about as big as a laptop computer. it was my grandpa's when he worked for wisconsin power and electric. it still works, and i don't really use it that much so i never got a new one. i believe it's general electric, i can't really tell though.
