GO TO WWW.TIRERACK.COM do a search on 225/60/15 they HAVE the cheapest prices PERIOD. pay a local shop 5 bucks to have them mounted, and get the wheel balance for life thing. I bought 225/60/15 Firestone Firehawk SZ50's AND THEY ARE BEYOND GREAT. I paid 77.50 a peice deleivered! The local sears wanted 165 PER TIRE!.

I'm a big fan of Goodyears.
Right now I have Futura ($40 - From Graeme:rockon: )
and a swap meet ($15) BF Goodrich (hardly used, tho).
I need one more cheap tire.
Hey I paid $300 for my Firebird.
Like I'm gonna spend money on it?
I do buy my Corvette Tires from Tire Rack.
I pay about $90 for my Goodyear Eagle GA 225/70/15.
Works by me.

I am a fan of BF Goodrich. I have the Radial T/As 235/60s. I got them from a local place for $50 a piece. Those of my choice for everyday driver.

I'm also a fan of the BFGoodrich Radial T/As. They are a great "bang for the buck" tire. They wear and hold the road well. I had Goodyear Eagle GTIIs on the car before and they wore to fast and didn't grip as well.

i have been running 235 60 15 Dunlop GT Qualifiers. i am in CT and found that the tractiong in the rain is very good. of course i get tire spin here and there and on hills, but the a$$ never kicks out (maybe its more the car than the tires). but i do find that since they are 235's (or maybe its the thread design) that they suck pretty hard in the snow. the front end doesn't like to turn, and the rear wheels are a paint to grab.....kinda like driving on sleds when you get 3" or more on the ground. but i have nothing to compare it too, so that may be common with our cars and racing type tires....anyone car to add?? but when its dry i like em alot, and hold up well in the rain.....

I had BFg's on my car. They came on it when I bought the car. I took them off after maybe a week. THEY HAD NO WET TRACTION AT ALL.

I'm also running the BF Goodrich Radial T/A's. I don't remember what I paid exactly, I'm pretty sure the front's were under $90, and I think my rear tires were $110?

My original tire size was P215/65r15 on stock 15x7" rims.

I'm now running a P225/60r15 tire on the fronts, still using a 15x7 rim (altho now it's an American Racing rim).

I'm running P275/60r15 rear tires on 15x8 rims. I had to do some creative modification (with a sledgehammer) to the inside bottom of one of the wheel wells. Plus, I have air shocks, so the back of the car is raised enough so the taller tire doesn't get cut by the fenderlip.

I have Falken ZIEX VR 225-60's and I love them. I used to have the BF Goodrich Touring TR I dont remember the size, but the tires had terrible rain grip and the sidewall was too big. My new tires now have a shorter sidewall and they are a little wider, they handle awsome in the rain. The car used to fish tail easy in the rain, but now it doesn't with these tires. Get this though; I can get my car sideways no problem on a hot summer day on dry pavement with or without Motley playing "Looks That Kill" full blast? Go to www.vulcantire.com to see the tires.

I am using a tire called DEFENDER, I can not remember where the previous owner of the car got them but they where 120 a peice, have great traction in water snow and dry conditions and still have almost 100% of the tread after 2,000 miles and hard driveing.

I'd recommend against used shocks; buy new. You don't know what condition the used shocks are in... even if it's from a 2002 car. SummitRacing.com sells some KYB GR-2 rear shocks for $20 each, and they want (if I remember correctly) $60/each for front struts. You can do the rear shocks yourself; but you might want to visit an alignment shop for the front struts.

couldn't see what the tires were on the new rims, under stuff behind the bird. would've dug but someone hit a skunk I was downwind to it. might smell better

I had a feeling I wasn't gonna score a Goodyear Steelguard Radial White wall.
Need one for my 1974 Corvette GR70-15.
I have a NOS White Letter version, but, white walls were optioned on my Corvette.
Thanks for checking.

They have the same tread style as the BFG's and to be honest they are the best tries I have ever run on, and the tread life is out of this world LOL

Just got my BFGs from the UPS guy the other day. They are 235/60/15s and they were $70 each with $12.50 shipping each. They look good on the car, haven't got it licensed yet so don't drive it. That comes on the 1st of the month. Had 74,000 original miles on the original tires on the car, can you say smoooootthhhhh tread? Well, the car was free and runs great. Good luck on the tires.

free car?

but even a $150 car never ends up being cheap. esecially if the reprevious owner ,because he "didn't know anything about cars", never kept up routine maintenance. Motor is separate issue.

I had Firestone 235/55 rear and Dunlop 225/65 front when I bought the car.

when I needed tires a few months back, I put Goodyear Regatta 215/65s all the way around....which was the factory size.

I HATE them!

Don't know if it's the size or the tire, but it seems like every little crack in the highway throws the car. Those grooved stretched of highway are a real treat!

Don't get me wrong - it's not like the car is out of control. Most folks might not even notice it, but those of us who really enjoy driving and are in touch with feedback pick right up on it.

I see alot of BFG fans, but no one mentioned their parent company Michelin. I do not have Michelins on my car, but my last car had a set, and you want to talk about a good wearing, good handling tire.

I have a set of Good year Wing foots on my car on the front, and I love them too, man they grip, I have made some corners I shouldn't of, but some how those over half worn good years got me through. On the rear I have firestones, their winter of course, there alright, nothing to brag about.

As for sizes I would recomment a 215/65/15 (the stock size)
or a 235/60/15 which looks really good on the car.

what U really want is H rated
noone ever talks about the rating on a tire
basically most of the tires U guys are talking about are S rated
S standing for ****ty handling
what U want is H T Z V or X rated tire
U want to grip the road not spin
i got crappy BFG excentia Gts on front and BFG T/A on rear that spin like crazy
i plan on getting a quality H rated tire that has good tread wear and excellent traction

As I understand tire ratings, the S, H, V or Z relate to the maximum travel speed the tire is rated to handle. It has nothing whatsover to do with traction or handling.

Traction is primarily a factor of tread compound (how "sticky" the rubber is), contact patch and the tread pattern. Handling is a factor of those plus sidewall deflection.

Check the link for more info.

Actually mine are Z rated.
my old firestone SH30's were H rated and they handled a $hitload better then the H rated BFG's.... I liked the SH 30's and highly recomend them to anyone looking for a good wearing tire. My rears lasted 35-38K and the fronts are still on and have a good bit left on them. I had to replace the rears mainly because I got a slice in one of the tires. And I never just replace 1 tire, always both in the rear/front, or a set of 4.

If you want traction, check out the treadwear figure. If you have a high # for treadwear, that means your tires will last forever, because they won't be sticky.

aren't the majority of tires with high tread wear made of a harder, plastic-like rubber ( such as the 50k & up milage tire, not to good in handling) as oposed to the more performance orientated tires with a softer compound, but don't last as long?

did I confuse anyone?

yes your right. But thats when driving performance by the driver comes in and they have to decide between a tire that will last forever, but will not hold in a turn, or a tire that can canyon carve but will be bald in 9 months. I'm exagerating but you get the point.

Still doing great after a year of curving crappy roads, tight manuevering in the tiny-a$$ streets and parking spaces they seem to love over here, and high speed autobahn driving. We'll see if they last for 2 more years. Still the other part of me wants to get new tires so I can get them T-rated (118 mph instead of 112 I think) ,

and most important of all,

the single most important factor above all others.....

I LOVE WHITE LETTER TIRES!!
Brings me back to when they first advertised them, late 60's. The Advertisment for the Goodyears tires were pages full of CUTE Girls in Micro Mini Skirts, Leather Boots, HOT CARS!
Being 12, this was a GREAT PICUTRE!
I personally love the Goodyear Eagle GA's "T" rated.
I have them on the Corvette great tires.
My Firebird, I almost went with the white leters, but they would have been mismatched names and that's a no-no.
AS an FYI coolrimsatleast,
I had those Grand Am Tires.
Who makes them?
I want to sue them, I had two of their tires explode on me. Luckily, they were in the rear.
I mean, explode like a FIRESTONE.

No one recalls, the Firestone "721"s.
The FIRST FIRESTONE to EXPLODE WHILE DRIVING.
Back in the early-mid 70's.
Firestone Tire company, never learns from their mistakes.
That's why the Japanese bought them at a Fire sale price. Firestone got sued so much (yep, exploding tires & damage to public & vehicles) from back in the 70's, they lost the business.
Goodyears are the BEST, BUT, in Germany, I'd go with Michelins. I'm sure it's better tire compound for those roads & conditions. Dunlops & Conti are primo, too. So are Pirelli.
