Seeking advice on a 3.1
Ok, I've decided to put my 383 build on hold for now due to money issues and my local machine shop is shutting their doors. So I've decided to just rebuilt the 3.1 that came in it originally. Does any one have any ideas what I can do to this grocery getter motor instead of an expensive turbo build. Maybe a cam or something like that. Nothing to crazy, just enough to shut the little ***** Honda drivers around here. I'm open to any and all suggestions. And for all the 3.1 owners out there, I'M NOT CALLING YOUR MOTORS GROCERY GETTERS. It's just mine is a little on the weak side and I'd just that. A Sunday driver that my grandma could use to go to the farmers market. So that said, I NEED HELP!!!

for ultimate low budget , which isnt even really low budget cam port the heads and intake , tune and a 4:10 rear gear swap
for the most basic best seat of the pants upgrade , 105$ autozone high stall converter , and rear gear swap
gear swap will run u around 300-325$ alone
cam swap alone will run u about 150-200$
porting the heads = about 100$ for gasket set + headbolts + the cost of the tools if u dont have them
for single mod the gear swap is hands down the best
most honda civics will still smoke u after any of the above , the f-body is like 3000-3400 pounds depending on options
if ur going to mod it and dont want to be dispointed a basic turbo setup can be done for around 600-800$'s depnding on how resourceful u are

Ok, so what exactly do you have in mind for weight reduction? I'm down for that, no doubt. But I'm eventually going to probably track it all back on when I do my suspension upgrades. New k member, coil over conversion ( front and rear ) possibly a rack and pinion steering setup. But the one thing I'm afraid of with the turbo mod is messing with the ecm. I'm not that great with writing, only because I have ZERO patients for it. But unfortunately I am good at it. Go figure

Re: Seeking advice on a 3.1
as far as wieght reduction theres some bracing around the car u can remove , holesawing out the steel under the door panels , the pnels in the back by the rear speakers , replacing some brackets with aluminum brackets , , theres also things like fiberglass hoods , decklids
mostly it comes down to ur imagination , the stock seats are pretty dang heavy , the sound deading material under the carpets wieghs a bunch , u could also remove all the seam seler form the floors of the car and stitch weld the joints etc etc

I've got a fiberglass hood on it and was actually thinking about getting the entire fiberglass front clip, and fiberglass doors. And replacing all windows and the t tops with lexan.
