Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Single wire sensor, green with white stripe possibly fan switch back of passenger side head, correct? I broke the connector off of it.
3 wires going back towards trans, on the top of the trans, colors are violet, beige? with black strip and green. shares the violet and beige with the cold start injector. I cant see where the plug is to disconnect it and its preventing me from pulling the harness from behind the motor.

thats the fan switch u keep that
3 wires twards the trans should be the lockup wiring , plug is ds of the trans above the shifter linkage.
if u cant unplug it make dam sure thats what those wires are for and cut them , then later u can get under the car and unplug it , but u will later need that connector and wires so u can wire up a converter lockup

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I shouldn't need it with an adjustable fan controller correct? Just need to retain the stock relay because that ground connects to the controller instead of the sensor.
I will work on hopping under and looking right now. Thanks

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I'll be honest, I didn't expect that much wire! LOL
I don't even know where to begin...
You dont realize how much is there until you get all that loom off. I am a bit nervous because I don't want to cut something i'm not supposed to. Everything is so interconnected its not even funny.
How would be the best way to go about this? Start with cutting all the wires that goto the ecm at the firewall connector? Trace all the wires coming from the ecm into the harness, then where would I be cutting the wires?

cut off all the loom and tape , then pic a sensor conector and start pulling it out of the loom back to the ecm conector , do this one at a time and eventually u will get them out
u can cut the sensor pigtials off just leave ureself enough wire to solder them to the ms harness ,
with the pigtials cut off it makes it easier to pull the wires threw the harness
ps get some masking tape to put on each connector so u know were it goes when u goto wore it to the ms harness

Not gonna work on it today, too much rain and lots of other stuff to take care of today, thank god for a second vehicle.
I will pick back up tomorrow, and post the progress. Here is what it currently looks like. I cut my hands worse pulling that harness out than any other vehicle related repair I have ever performed! Lots of cursing too.

BTW, the back of the 2.8 manifold has a flat spot, would it be ok to drill and tap the back for more vacuum ports that way every sensor has its own dedicated line?

lol just take ur time u will get it , u shouldnt have to tap the back of the manifold , theres plenty of vacum ports for what u need , specially once all the emmisions stuff is gone

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Starting on it today, My girl was over for a couple days and family time for new years cause they just got back from NJ.
So trace all the sensor wires back to the ECM connector and clip them. Simple enough. Whats next after that?
Am I also tracing the connector from the frontside of the injector harness and clipping that or just sensor wires?

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
There are 2 wires for the launch control switch, so wouldnt I wire that to say 2 IAC wires(or unused pins) on the connector to run to the switch through the harness?

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
And what do I do with said sensor wires trace back to the drivers side wiring?
You said dont cut anything on the drivers side so what do I do with them?
And when you say trace the sensor wires to the ECM side, JUST the sensor wires, or those and connectors for the injectors and everything else? What about the wires spliced to both sides?
Not quite specific enough for me.

the gauge wires back to the driverside get left alone , those will be the wires for the tach, oil presure , and coolant
unplug the injector harness its under the throttle body and pull the ecm side of the connector back

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
so for example, a wire leading from a sensor pigtail, splices into a wire running from the ECM to the driverside. I am to clip the wire to the ecm, clip it at the splice, and leave it connected to the driverside?
So not a single wire gets clipped that runs to the driver side.
Can you be more specific on the injector harness? I unplugged the injector harness from the back and put it to the side.
The sensor wires that run under the alternator I just clipped so I could pull them out (frontside injector harness connector and 2 others).
I didnt label anything, kinda did that before you said to. I know I made it harder, But I can plug the pigtails into the corresponding sensors to figure it out.
Now I am still unclear on this. JUST the sensor connectors get cut off???
There are way too many wires for me to just start getting clip happy with my cutters. I need more info.
Also, the injector power plug that was under the dash, is that being plugged back in?

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I have mechanical coolant temp and oil pressure gauges. And am using an aftermarket sunpro FAZE tach, If I can ever figure out the jumper setting for V6, didnt get a book with it cause I was given just the tach and wires.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
the wires that are cliped together to ecm and driverside are they black by anychance? if so they are grounds and u can go ahead and clip them
u can take the connectors on the harness were they plug into the ecm and cut the ecm connectors off then u can pull those wires thre the harness this way u can make sure u only removing ecm stuff , take some pictures of the wires ur having trouble with once i see them ill know which ones ur talking about

Ok, so just cut the wires off of both ECM connectors? what about the 3rd clear plug for injector power?

u can cut that power connector ,
that pic is were the harness went out the fender right? just cut the wires on the engine side of that mess so u dont have to try to deal with all the tape covering them all
when i did mine i actuallt carefully undid all the tape and stuff using a very sharp exacto knife to get it all off

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
dude, 90% of the wires for the sensors are interconnected to the drivers side and it is ridiculously tangled.
What am I doing with the wires to the relays?
What am I doing with the sensor wires to the drivers side?
I am removing the Cruise control, can I cut the connector for it?
there are so many wires that run to the drivers side, which is not letting me pull the sensor pigtails
Anyone in central Florida done a MS install? I need some freakin help....

the relays shouldnt be touched
u can just cut the cc
worry about stuff like the coolant temp sensor . tps , iac , 02 , injectors wires first , the more stuff like that u remove first the easier it gets
pic a sensor pigtail and work on that till its all the way out then pick another then do the same work on one at a time till its done then move to a new one , its the only way to do it

Plus you said dont touch the relays and thats where some of the wires run. everything is connected to everything else pretty much... I dont know what I can and cant cut and its not making much sense. "cut from the ECM and work the pigtails out" they are still connected to the other side and you told me not to cut any of that besides grounds, they arent all grounds.
What am I cutting from the drivers side to pull the pigtails????

ok so cut them from the ecm side and swing them over to the driver side and leave them, once u get them all done we will work threw the stuff left on the ds

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
to make it a lil easier unbolt the connector on the driver side , its a 6.5 or 8mm bolt in the center to unbolt it
once u unbolt it unplug it the left side of that connector seperates from the right side , u will see how once u get it unplugged
the right side of that connector is like the headlights, parking lights, blinkers etc , u can swing that clear out of the way
the left side however will give u more room to pull the harness away from the firewall for easier working on it

to make it a lil easier unbolt the connector on the driver side , its a 6.5 or 8mm bolt in the center to unbolt it
once u unbolt it unplug it the left side of that connector seperates from the right side , u will see how once u get it unplugged
the right side of that connector is like the headlights, parking lights, blinkers etc , u can swing that clear out of the way
the left side however will give u more room to pull the harness away from the firewall for easier working on it

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Not a whole lot of progress, and that harness is all kinds of tangled right now from me trying to pull pigtails. I have wires twisted around eachother, wires in knots, and what looks like black duct tape covering the splices.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
ur getting there , the more u get out the easier it gets , untangling the mess is really the hardest part
go ahead and snip off all the pigtials both on the ecm side and on the sensor side ( tps , iac , air temp , collant temp, injectors , maf ) then u will see which wires can be pulled/untangled easier and it will make it 100 times easier to pull out
the only wires that will be left really are the headlights etc and the wiper motor and the heater motor wires
i forgot about the emmisions wires go ahead and clip those too egr , charcoal canister etc
and now u see exactly not to do when u run the new harness , what i do is grooup my wires then zip tie them every 1-2 ft so if u ever have to get in the harness they wont be all tangled up

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
You mean cut the sensor wires on both the driver and passenger side?

no i meant cut the ecm connectors off , then cut off the pigtails for thew other sensors , then start on ecm side pick one wire and untangle out out of the harness 9 from this point if it feeds to the driver side, untangle it all the way to the ds conector and leave it there
do this with everywire and once u get them all done we can deal with the wires that goto the driverside
most of the splices that goto the driverside that look like there wrapped with tape can be cut though

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I've already cut the 3 connectors off on the ECM side. So just untangle the sensors the best I can and put them to the side if they are connected to the DS and go from there..

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
yeah its been a while since ive done a v6 car otherwise id just tell u which wires to cut on the ds ,
if anyone has the pinout for ur ds conector u could just look at that and clip the wires on the ds right off the bat , i know alot of them go but a few of them HAVE to stay so id rather not tell u to start clipping those wires until u have them sorted and i can see exactlky whats there with pictures

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I can look at the wiring diagrams in the book, I think I have a Chiltons.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I have gotten this harness beyond tangled, looks nothing like that pic you put up, more like I have to do alot of clipping wires.
The splices of black wire you said I can cut to pull some sensors out, and you said the green/white is AC, which I should be able to clip.
I am making some progress, but some of the wires run from one connector to another connector, then to the DS. I'm untangling as best I can but havent gotten far. I'll go back out and cut the black wire splices and hopefully I will be able to get further.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Sorry to put you on the spot but I need to know what I can cut from the DS. It's hopelessly tangled and I cant pull anything else out. I've gotten maybe 4 pigtails out, the rest is wrapped around itself and interconnected...

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
This is as far as I have gotten. Cut sensor wires to pull them out and there is still a ton of wires.

these are the pigtails I have cut off, along with the injector harness.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
ok here ya go
i hope these come out ok , if u need more detials i will run back tommorow and get more detialed pics i was in a rush today as the wind is blowing like 30mph and its damn colddddd out
dam theese didnt come out as good as i thought
ok first up is the ds bulkhead the wires runninng out to the right of the picture are removeable with the exception of the brown with white strip and other wires that run to the fuel pump relay . u will have to look and check for urself as in my car the fp relay is not used thanks to the previous owner who has the fp wired directly to the key
the heavy gauge wires running to the bottom of the picture are the leads that goto the starter and alternator
the pink wire is power for the coil
the thin white wire is for the tach in the dash
