Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I'm not putting anymore money into the 2.8. It's parked until the 3.4 goes in, and I'm converting to DIS, **** this repeated bending of distributor shafts.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Its not the injectors making noise; its irregular and not uniform. It sounds like det, sheared teeth off the inside of the 3-4 clutch pack, something rubbing/rattling, or the TCC.
I'm at 11.7 afr at 15psi and thats WITH an exhaust leak, so its probably .5 or similar richer.
I might just start with buying a good dizzy for the 3.4, though I might just start with the DIS conversion now. Top end gaskets and swap the oil pans and intake manifold and its ready when the 2.8 goes, which it will.

LOL, I just remembered; I already have the top end gasket set. I can also bolt the turbo headers to the 3.4 once everything is tacked in place to weld them. I might just start pulling the 2.8 tomorrow.
At any rate, I'll get the headers modified tomorrow...

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
SO......
If I put 10-20 psi from the air compressor, through the oil feed on the turbo, guess what happens?
Air comes out of the valve cover...
Looks like it needs a rebuild, or its shot. Never had a turbo before but pretty sure it needs a rebuild. Sure do wish I had the money to get the housing machined and to put that 60 trim wheel on it, lol.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
If you put pressure in through the oil inlet it should be escaping through the outlet/return which is plumbed into your oil pan and gets inside your engine. It would be coming out there whether it was wasted or not.
most turbos don't have any kind of positive seals to blow out, the only thing in them that can wear out is the bearings/thrust surface, so the only thing to check for is excessive radial and axial play in the shaft. If that's all right and the wheels aren't chewed up then the turbo is fine.

Yea but the oil return bung is in my 2.8 pan, so I gotta swap it over. I have a new oil pan gasket on mine too. Yours was ****ed, lol.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Well I was done with the thread, but I will close with this.
In less than 10,000 miles, the turbine is rubbing the housing, and the journal bearing surface is gouged. This even with an adequate oil supply and me ALWAYS idling the car down for at least a minute in a half. I also drove it easy within 2 miles of my destination.
I have gotten with a Garrett authorized diesel shop in Orlando, that will custom build a rebuild kit for me, new shaft and turbine in stock, and will balance the assembly once I am done rebuilding it. The turbo I am getting from Ducky I will only be using the compressor side if it is the same shaft size; The backing plate will bolt right up to the Garrett T3 CHRA I have. This lets me stay with a genuine Garrett rotating assembly and peace of mind.
I think it has a 60 trim wheel on it, which is exactly what I wanted for this turbo.
This will make it a t3/t4 .48AR hotside and .60AR coldside, which will boost the efficiency quite a bit. I have a feeling ~12 psi will max the injectors being 16psi had me at 85% duty with the T3.
The sound I heard was once again not detonation, but the turbine rubbing the housing.
When the time comes, and the 2.8 finally goes, I will maybe start a new thread.
When the 2.8 finally does make its pass down the strip, I will post the results here and that will pretty much be the end of it. I have learned many things throughout this experience.
I will close with this valuable piece of advice for anyone attempting to do something like this for the first time themselves:
If you want it done right, Do it yourself.

I love how somehow, some way; the things I want to do to the car just kinda fall into my lap.

****in right I was, lol. Perfect fit. Just gotta bring the whole thing with me so they can size everything in the rebuild and balance the assembly. I'll bring it to the diesel shop in 2 weeks with my next check and git r dun.
So amped right now. This turbo is gonna be ****in silly. The spool, everything. I might succeed in tanking the 2.8. LOL. Its that or the rear!

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I was going to reply to your rather insulting PM, but since you also decided to bring it onto the forum, I will state it here.
the reason I locked the other thread was because people were trying to offer advice on possibilities, because there is no known mini-starter that will work directly on a RWD 660, which should have been obvious from the replies and the fact that you stated in your PM to me that you spent 12 hours searching for a solution and came up empty. I have already stated this in that thread. I could see it would progress no further and you would just get more upset with the replies and pull this fit that you are, I was hoping to avoid that, but it seems that you are pulling it anyway.
If you would like (and according to the guidelines set out to me should be) make your vacation from here permanent. On the flip side, I'm reasonable and realize that people have bad days and vent it in ways or places they really shouldn't, so I will not, unless you request it (or push the attitude further), make that vacation permanent.
So basically you have two options:
1) lose the attitude and appreciate that people are trying to help you, even if they aren't 100% sure something will work.
or
2) I can make sure you can not come back.
The choice is yours.

So if you think I really care about taking this "permanent vacation", then go right on ahead, cause real life is much more exciting than a ****ing forum.
I do appreciate all the help that I have gotten, and have learned many things here. However I am at the point where I really don't have anymore questions. So in that sense, there is nothing left to the thread until I get the Walbro 255 in, the 4BAR MAP, and run it at Orlando Speed World at 25psi.
14psi brought me to 141mph at 3/4 pedal. This car is capable of hitting low 12's for sure, but thats just throwing **** at the wall and hoping it sticks. Won't know until I run it, But if I floor it the front end comes up higher then Dave's V6 did. More videos to upload to my youtube channel too so keep an eye out.
I have a short temper, that's a given, but seriously SixShooter put you're internet dick back in your pants. Do what you must, but I won't miss this place even if you do give me a "permanent vacation".
So if it makes you feel better, go right on ahead. Pound that keyboard and rage ban me, beat it till its a messy pulp of a keyboard and until you're hands look like ground beef. Feels good don't it?
If I get banned bye guys. If not, I have a real life to tend to, and I'll stop in from time to time, But for what its worth, I'll be hanging out in the regional section.
Later and Thanks!
P.S. If you think I'll care about being banned the joke is on you...

And with that last baiting reply and disrespectful attitude willexoIX is now banned.
For everyone else there's no need to be disrespectful to other members, any members. Keep it civil and there will be no problems.
Seriously it's not a hard thing to do, or even a hard concept to understand. Be respectful of one another, even when the help you are given may not be exactly what you're asking for. You're not paying for this privilege of being on this site, so be thankful for any help you get.
You may not always agree with the actions of a moderator (on any site), but attacking that moderator will not help your situation. There are tactful ways to go about discussing the problem.
To willexoIX;
Have fun with your car, I'm sure it will be a lot of fun for you in the future.
