Ok so not including the icm, coil and water pump, everything else to finish up the setup should run under $200. 2 90° couplers, 1 45° coupler, 2 straight aluminum pipes, a 2.5" to 2" coupler, a 2.5" to 3" and that takes care of the IC tubing and compressor side. Oil lines for in and out. Gaskets for exhaust manifolds and flanges.
One question, where do you think i would be able to find an aluminum bung for the IAT sensor and what thread is it?
Also that gigantic oil drainback tube, what bung and fitting should i use for the oil pan?

LOL How did you manage to tear it? I heated it a little with a heat gun to make it more flexible.

It looked like it had a little crack in it and when i tried to stretch it it just separated. Its all good, im ordering i think 3ply connectors and a bunch of tbolt clamps. I dont like worm gear clamps when you have to go real tight. Ill be using fuel injection clamps on the barb fittings for the oil lines too.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I use t-bolt clamps on my induction stuff for more even load distribution. Smaller hoses really don't need it but you won't pinch the material with fuel injection clamps, unlike worm gear clamps. LCARBS are a good idea even if you don't lower it, you can adjust the instant center on launch to give it more bite. Enough pressure and a high enough converter and you'll need it.

Just for s***s and giggles.
Whats a good recommendation on turbo for a 375-400 total hp, keeping the t3 flange and preferably v-band with internal wastegate for future reference? Thats the highest I will ever go on a DD. When i get another car ill go big.
Also that manual boost controller, the T junction, one side has a super small orphice on the line that goes from the wastegate to blowoff/recirculation valve, is that gonna cause a problem?

Holy crap What is big??? A 800Hp 60Degree 6???
The gt3582 is what I have and its a great turbo. I like the external wastegate and its straight forward to pipe up and connect.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I first thought of really doing a turbo 4 years ago. I read about it for about 2 years here and there on threads on this site and some other V6 camaro sites, trying to wrap my head arround the build as a whole. I bought parts for it over a 1 year span because of the budget i set for it. I did the build and had it running in about 1 month after I tore down the engine. Spent about 2 hrs each night before bed working on the car. Not sure if that was a good thing..... But once the bugs were out and i had the guts to floor it WOT it was rewarding.
Im sure you will progress on your builds. I basically have torn down my engine the last 2 winters in a row setting goals for the next year to go faster. 2 years later im finally doing the hybrid build.
Take baby steps... but over time it will seem like a leap when you look back.

The turbo setup should be pretty easygoing, im looking at having it on and first startup in a weekend, maybe 3 days. Unless I wind up having to wait for something.
I have a list of everything I need, and as soon as i get my tax check I'm ordering all i need plus some extras just in case.
Let me know what you want for both those MSD coils and the ICM with shipping when you get a chance. Ill be putting those on first so we can get the NA tune down. Once thats taken care of its on to the turbo setup

Ok will do. Right now we are dealing with another 10 inches of snow here. Getting tire of all of these snow storms here.
I'd want 50 bucks for the mds coil and ICM shipped anywhere in the Lower 48 though if that's ok with u. Can't ship it till right now though because of the snow.

Sounds good to me. As long as i get to replace that icm cause i cant do anything with the car. Now it misfires like crazy even in park. The coil will wind up going out next cause it looks like it was already arcing.

So an interesting thing just happened. Today my refund was approved, due for deposit on the 10th. Just paid for $184 in stuff for the setup, with only 24 cents in my bank account. Even better, on paypal every single purchase shows "payment completed".
Fluke or do you think my credit union already has the direct deposit, or the notification for it, and just doesn't show the balance?
I'm still trying to wrap my head around it, while staring at all the payment receipts in my email inbox, lol.
BTW, Fasteddi let me know if you have received my payment out of thin air! LOL

Ok, everything is ordered, should all be here by Wednesday. Only thing ill have to go out for should be header paint and the return oil line.
Ill keep you all updated. Going to get the coil and icm in first. Then tuning, and hopefully within the next 2 weeks ill get started on the turbo setup.
Its almost reality now

And since i read it, but didnt find pics of it. This is an easy way to take out stripped bolts if you have a welder. If any exhaust manifold bolts break this is how ill remove them.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
So I've been looking for the past few days for a 160° thermostat, and I found a bunch, but barely any of them online say how many mm they are.
I can't bring myself to pull the trigger just to find out it's too big/small.
Any of you have a link to one you know is 47/48mm? All the places around me don't have that size in 160.
I think that's the only thing left to order. I'll post up pics when I get every thing.

The msd coil and 2 icms are on the the way. I wrote on the icms as one has about 500 miles on it, says brand new and the 2nd has about 10k miles. So use the newer one first. Make sure to put plenty of dielectric paste under the ICM.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
put the new icm in, boost gauge turns off as soon as i turn the key. MS resets everytime I try to crank the car. Switched the coil out, same thing.
unplugged the bypass, cranks and starts for a fraction of a second then dies and resets the MS again....
And yes, I cleaned both surfaces for the icm and put good thermal paste on it. Also turned the running dwell back to 2.5

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I ordered the ac delcos. I don't know why i even waste my time with the parts stores by me.
#1 none of them know what they are talking about.
#2 they NEVER have parts for my car, even though there are 6 other v6 third gens in just one town.
#3 they always argue with me about my car, the car I know, and they dont.
All high school kids who arent smarter than a 5th grader.
Ill be back on soon with some updates when I get those wires. Ill post some pics when I get the rest of the stuff for the setup.

im also going to have to cut the 2 rear cylinder flanges off the turbo headers and reweld them, they are off by a half inch.front 2 are good on both sides but the back two arent going to line up at all.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Not on the car. Gasket on the turbo manifolds, passenger side rear cylinder is 1/4 inch off the gasket holes, drivers side rear is 1/2 inch off the gasket holes.
Unless they are the wrong gaskets, which I doubt. They are the felpro ms90864, which appears to be correct. Unless it was the wrong gaskets in a sealed box.
Box has 173(2.8L) 80-93 on it so its the right gaskets
Either way the back 2 cylinders are off and need to be rewelded.

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Your saying that on the header itself the number 5 and 6 cylinder holes are not lining up to the heads exhaust ports?
Thats no good..

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
I dont know about the heads, the stock manifolds are still on. But the rear 2 header ports dont match up to the gaskets. So im pretty sure they wont match up to the heads either. 1 2 3 4 are fine, 5 and 6 dont line up.

Hey bl85c, did you put those together on a motor or did you make them off of a jig?

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Bolted on junk heads so they wouldn't warp. They can't possibly be that far off???

Re: Another Turbo 2.8 in progress
Wont know for sure till I try to get them on the car.
I have a set of 96 3100 heads, I know they have D ports, but are the bolt holes in the same spot as the 2.8 on the heads for the exhaust? If so I can put those heads on the headers to see if its just the gaskets.
