power steering hose adapter?
I am finishing up my engine install. The guy working on the car took the fitting that te pressure switch connects to off the car. so now my power steering hose doesnt fit. the end that connects to the steering box is too small. can i get a hose off of a carbed v6 to fit? or does anyone know the thread sizes and where i can get a adapter. thanks

Re: power steering hose adapter?
Parts store hose should fit. Replacement hoses I've used did not come with the pressure switch. Check the hose length at the counter before walking out with it.
87 carb'd cars had the pressure switch. The replacement hose for my 87 did not, but still fit. The switch on carb'd cars WO AC bumped the idle speed at low power steering pressure. W AC it cut the AC out at low pressure.

I'm not aware of any non-computer controlled cars that use the pressure switch.

No sir, a 1987 firebird v6 comes with a part that goes between the hose and the steering box. this part is where the pressure switch connects. the inlet hole is smaller than the outlet hole on the part.

I'm sorry. I inferred that you were trying to get a hose assembly that would run from the pump to the box without the pressure switch assembly.

I am trying to find a hose that will run from my power steering pump straight to the steering box. I do not want to have to look for the part that the pressure switch connects to. I am sure there is a hose from another year that might fit.

The fitting at the box is the same for all years, 82-92. You may have to spend a little time at the parts store counter to find the length you need. Power steering pump accessory location is the primary difference between hoses.
I'm not really sure what motor you have anyway.

Ok cool, thats what i thought. te hole on the box should be the same for all years. So i just need to find a year that does not have the pressure switch adapter?

Re: power steering hose adapter?
I currently run a hose assembly from an 88 TBI... No pressure switch. Only thing is that the lower section of pipe (which goes into the steering gear) is bent in such a way that it will need to point towards the pump pulley in order to keep from twisting the hose.
Make sure you have an o-ring handy for the end of the pipe on both ends of the hose. You MAY be able to get away without one on the steering gear, but you will need one for the pump.

Re: power steering hose adapter?
It may be called the adapter block... IDK for sure. There were only a couple models that used them (V6 and carbs, I think) because the power steering takes so much power out of the engine when the steering is at full turn, so the ECM needed a way to know to raise the engine speed to keep from stalling out.
I can also go ahead and look through my garbage in my garage. I may or may not have already scrapped the thing, however.
