Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

should just be thankful its not 3ft of snow, my 79 with a V8 was no different. Helpped that it was a peg leg so it stayed straight easier. Stopping was a different story. It didn't stop in snow.

Some of the GN guys will add a second gate to the cross over if the primary is too small/restrictive.

thats just a pop off valve , its there incase of an explosion below the blower , so the manifold/blower doest get destroyed. same reason we use burst panels and aluminum studs for bolting the blower to the manifold

fast u should grab on of those t76's with a .61 t4 ptrim turbine , specially now that u have the antilag

same diff no? if the reg BOV fails to open, it would open at the set spring tension. Little less problematic id assume as its much more simple of a design.

No, BOV and burst plates serve two different purposes and work differently.

So whats up with this TQ converter??

http://www.ebay.com/itm/B-M-70421-Ho...=mtr#vi-ilComp

Just talked to freakshow converters. 399 for one at what ever stall I want. Might be the ticket there. 3200 rpm stall or so.

The B&M unit is Non L/U. Talk to Dusty at PTC, he will set you up with a nice converter.

But if an equally performing converter can be found at a better price, good deal.

thats for the v8 version , by the time they custom built one for the v6 it would be all of 575-600+

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

Well I'm going to call freakshow after work and ask some questions and if they can get me one for 399 for what I need then I'm getting it.

Not sure bit do I need to still have a lock up converter? I know the pros of a lock up but does a non lock up really diminish the trans life?

I'm going to request a stall of 3200-3500. Unless they can guide me to better number. I don't know my max tq but I would guses it's arround 3500 give or take a few 100 rpm.

Opinions?

I'm hoping freakshow can answer the questions but your guys input always helps.

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

I use to work at a place over in Toledo near the fedex/RPS hum, way down airport ave, can't member the name, after ya pass rallys there is a road that dogs off to the right Angola rd] that what they did was build TC for bigger places. [ use to paint them a maron color ] but they pay $2-$4 each used. Cut it open on a lathe, any groves in the front hub we just polished out with emery cloth. it went through a washing machine, they bang on the fins, replace a few tiny washers, weld it, air check it, balance it, paint it and charge $150-200

there is really nothing inside them, and its a low skill job. I leanrd it all in a few weeks.

id first ask for pic of their shop, its take very little special equipment. cept for cutting open and spin balance, I could do it all in my shed.

But if that place is sitll there, you could talk to someone direct, give direct feedback and maybe even come out ahead.

Well they said no problem at freakshow although he was quite concerned that my transmission wouldnt take much when it comes to a 3500 stall.... They said theyd add a balloon plate and such too.

Just got off the phone with dana. Such a smart guy at 700 r4s.

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

So here I am at a fork in the road again. Do i spend $700 at least in a rebuild kit from dana, and $400 TC from freakshow and then figure out how to rebuild it properly? Or do a TH350 swap.

The TH350 swap is new territory for me as if it will be a easy job or not. But the TH350 converters are much cheeper for the quality and easy to come by. And another issue is a solid modified TH350 trans can be had for less then danas rebuild kit.... damm decisions. Damm v6 just has to be so difficult.

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

They just work better over all, I hang on several boards and they are always full of 700 problems. Th350s go forever n take allot of abuse.

run some RP racing ATF if you want it to kick like a muel when it shifts.

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

fast u know my advice ive been down this road before with the 700's
after the fiasco with my th400 i just bought a bunch of nice th350 parts for my build.

if u really want to keep the overdrive get a 2004r though its a lil more work to swap in

also if down the road u change directions the th350 will be an easy sale , versus a built v6 only trans/converter
also with the th350 ur one step closer to a turbo v8 swap lol

the weak spot on the flexplate is the center hub , u wont weaken it at all u dont even really drill it out u just have to file the stock holes in a tiny lil bit.
if u want it proper an exact, give the flexplat to somone who has a bridgeport and a rotary table then they can use the mill to get the holes precisely right.

most who do the swap just use a round file or die grinder to slot the holes which is fine if u pay attention and do it carefully

edit check ur fs thread i need ur paypal info so i can pay for the alky kit

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

I got one but im saving it for a rainy day, I had mine built in AZ and shipped to Ohio to get someone I trusted. But if I put away any person bias id go to "Adler's Transmission & Brake" in Walbridge, famous family in the area, even when my Dad was a kid they were the family with fast cars. I went to school with them also but our personalities didn't jive but they know cars.

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

best bet is to get it a th350 first get it apart and see exactly what parts u need
i.e u may need to buy the plastic thrust washers if it doesnt have them already and other things if they are worn out

u may only need one of the cheaper kits , or u may need the next step up in kits

dana also has an all in one kit for the th350 but it comes with everything , since i was getting a manual vb and sourced some of the othe rparts i onlu needed the kit i bought , so for u would need to add a shiftkit and other small parts so it may be sheaper to just buy the full kit from dana ,

btw payment sent for alky stuff thanks

I didn't realize Dana messes wit th350.

Quick question. Probly dumb. If I would do the swap do I hook the vacuum line to it? Would the boost pressure mess with it? Check valve?

I'll see what I can find for a th350 arround the area. Hopefully I can find a decent one from a fellow braket racer.

only 3 downsides to that , lots more work to get it in the car, and the cost , though a bone stock 4l80 would be perfectly fine.

the biggest downside is it east up way to much power , hed never have to worry about the trans again , but he would prolyl slow down a full half second

if you put a checkvalve in there, line pressure will quit rising once the engine gets above atmospheric pressure... that seems like a bad idea to me.

with it hooked up normally, manifold pressure should push down on the modulator plunger in proportion to the amount of boost present, so it should raise line pressure further, assuming you don't run into a relief valve opening up.

AFAIK, I've never seen a factory boosted application that has a trans w/vacuum modulator use a check valve and I don't believe they have unique modulators compared to a N/A engine.

thanks man any chance u got a tracking number u can pm over to me

look in the trans section dana gave me a list of mods and parts to buy/use/do to my th350

in ur app alot of it will be overkill though

in ur case i would run the stock th350 with the upgrades clutches and steels ,shiftkit and do the lightwieght vega drum and call it good

theres a few tricks he also listed to help get instant manual shifts with no delay

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

In responce the the vac modulator for line pressure.... if I ran a full manual valve body... would that elaminate that completly?

A friend has a 9 inch tail th350 with a tci reverse manual valve body, deep alum dish pan, and one season since a rebuild for 400 bucks. I like the manual valve body especially for bracket racing which is what 90 percent of my driving is.

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

Well im dedicated now. I ordered a converter from freakshow. 320 bucks and Ive heard nothing but good things from them. They say 3200-3500 stall is what It will do for me.
Its a 10 inch converter(9.5 really) dual bolt pattern to fit the th350 small bolt ring(one the speedway kit wants)

Also got the speedway th350 to 60* v6 adapter plate coming.

Committed now..... hopefully its a good thing. If i get this all to work then the car will be funner for sure at the track and may just go a little faster too.

Well last year I never used it and with that mammoth intercooler my temps were in check on the boost I was running so I finured I'd make a few bucks back on that set up and toss it into the drivetrain for now.

Wish I would have caught that you were selling the alky kit, would have used it as a meth injection kit, though now that I'm down to 6psi intake temps are kept in check with the TMIC.

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid

Well I got a trans today.

A th350 with a 9 inch tail.

TCI reverse manual valve body. Got a season or so on it since a rebuild. It was behind a 10.50 mid 80s camaro he changed it out for a th400 with a brake.

Nice pan on it and looking though it slightly it looks ok visually.
