re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
cant move it much more or all the bumper supports will be gone. When I raced it a month ago after i moved the ic forward the temps were 100* at the end of a pull but then again they started out at 75* since it was about 70 out and not 90* like yesterday but I know what ya mean. Ill go out and check that out dave and see if I can move it forward more.
Id really love to yank off the front bumper luvers and front licence plate to help the air get in there.

that louvered grill has to block atleast 50% of the airflow

Yea I got lucky with my minifan, but I currently have a top mount with a vent instead of a scoop, though I have just thought of something that Ill post up in my thread when I get done with it.

re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
yea it blocks a good amount of the air going to the IC. Blows..lol But ill look at getting one here. I like the look also.
I can take the luvers off at the track but its the support behind where the l plate would be that really is a big wall.
I checked and thats as far forward as im getting. A 5 inch gap off the rad top and bottom. ThAs you can see in the pic. I dont see a reason why i need to start hacking up my car though. If i have to Ill run the alky but if I can maintain a 30-35 degree rise I do not see a issue exspecially since I would bet if I put a guage right off the turbo i have a pressure of at least 16psi when im running 13 at the manifold. Thats about the sweet spot on that turbo isnt it dave? 35-40 lbs/min of air and 15-17psi?
IAT sence position

re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
Just for reference, while cruising around or sitting at a stop light/start line, my intake temps might get to about 120* to 124*, and by the end of a run, the intake temps are near ambient, usually only a few degrees above. I would be working on getting that temp rise to go the other way, or at least not rise at all during a run.
Another point of reference, if I hot restart my car, say less than 10 minutes after being fully warmed up, my intake temps will be above 160*, and immediately start to drop once running, intake temps will cool quicker if I open the throttle more.
My MAT sensor is mounted just behind my throttle body. My IC is custom made from two Ford Turbo Coupe cores, but is still pretty small, it just gets lots of flow.
I'd say you need more air flow through the IC, to cool the fins.

I agree 6. I do need more flow.
I believe that I will try and see if I can take the louvers off, and if its still just as high I can tap into the turbo port and see what pressure i have there to see if im having a boost leak over working the turbo or if the IC and the 90*s are just that resitrictive.
I know all set ups are different, its something that I will work on or just put alky to it.

re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
Idea: Could your problem be that you have a BIG intercooler without enough air-flow going through it? That intercooler (the dimensions provided earlier) seems to be big enough to support almost 900HP (can't tell for sure unless you had the flow numbers it can support), but you are making half of that? Could a smaller intercooler with less surface area facing the radiator (less area to heat sink) while still have flow capability to make 600HP be more appropriate? Just an idea...
Also, I agree with airflow. Get as much as you can.

re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
Well i went out and datalogged again. I got that IC a inch farther out, it wasent easy. On a 50-100mph pull the temps went from 103 to 114. 11 degree TD.
Better but that was only a 6 second shot not 12 like the race track....
Still plan to take that louver off sunday if i go racing and see it that helps any.
That is a good idea fallen. Its something i definitely need to consider.

Yea I have a good air dam on the car.
I got hooked up with saar and got some stuff to play with, just havent had time to really mess with it alot. I have played with it a little but I have to toss on slicks to really mess with it and not spin those little street tire. I plan try it the following weekend for the track and see what it can do. Hopefully make some boost at the line and get the 60 ft times down.

re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
Yup it works. Wired into the brake peddle just like the msd I had last year. I messed with it and could build 2 or 3 psi in gear but I still need to play with the cut and restore rpm and the rpm gap.
Last year I had issues with the car falling flat on its face out of the hole with the msd. Felt the same with the ecm 2 step also. So I need to play with it so that the car doesn't fall as soon as I let off the brake.

Too bad you need a front license-plate. Otherwise, you could run no insert at all, and leave it open. Or, just make some diamond-mesh insert.

Not in Ohio and hes in the fun zone of Cops, had State Trooper say it didn't mater if my 79 Camaro [at that time] came with a bracket or not, if i had to drill holes in the bumper or what ever , it has to mount there.

Also if im not mistaken, the nose has holes in it behind the insert, at least mine does. Mount it there without the insert, then pull the plate and put the insert in at the track.
Edit- Gumby you are correct, I took a look at the Ohio statute, and although it only says a plate on the front and rear of the vehicle, I happened across this quote after an Ohio councilman got pulled over for no front plate.
"The windshield does not count as the front of the vehicle. The front of the vehicle is the bumper," said Lt. Williams Bowers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. "The men and women who patrol our streets must be able to see your plate."
Though they are trying to change the plate laws in Ohio to one rear plate.

re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
Yea ohio is strict in some places. To be honest I really only drive the car in michigan to the race track. I live about 10 miles from the border. Up there even if your a ohio registered car you dont need to have a front licence plate on. One good law in michigan... no front plates required.
On the other hand. A close friend (4th gen) put the plate on the air dam on his car a few years back.. and guess what if the cops not a absolute *****, they wont say a word as you and me may know the guidelines better then some trouper as they have alot more to look for then a licence plate that is not on the vehicle.
But it is a gamble. All depends on what cop is watching you or pulls ya over. I plan to run a plate just because i dont want to pay the fine.... The plate isnt restricting any air, yea it doesnt look as good but then again i dont wana pay out the **** on fines.
House bill 133 is what could emiminate the front plate in ohio but i doubt that will pass and go into effect for quite some time.

the reason given most times is they say they can't use the fancy lazer radar speed guns with out a good reflective surface like the front plate. [ yet my 20 year old radar still picks them all up, aka they still use the old radar guns 99% of the time. ]
plus not having it on the bumper just gives them an excuess to pull you over and check you out. If they care or not, they just needed a valid reason to poke their nose into what your up too.

There are plans for a lidar jammer using ir led banks, and they are not illegal due to the FCC not having regulations for laser waves yet. Though they only give you enough time to slow down to the speed limit before the 5-0 get a reliable hit. If they know your using a jammer though its a charge in itself.

Pretty much, even though the 4 headlights are plenty large enough reflective surfaces, I have 2 lidar tickets to prove it. Wonder if clear plastidip could prevent that, lol. Without compromising the effectiveness of the headlights of course.

re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
Well I intended on messing with the 2 step at some point. But had some spark cut issues that I had to figure out. The car ran 12.67 which is its normal when the DA is arround 2500-2800. Then ran a 12.61 as the air got better. Then went into eliminations and the car cut on me about at the 1000ft mark. It was definitly spark cut. Ran a 12.75@110mph.
So i tried to figure it out and didnt fix it because on the 2nd round it happened again even more so i let off and ran a 13.02@109mph. Happend in the first 60 foot then at the end of the track. I lost terribly despite having a .0003 RT which really pissssed me off.
Yesterday I found that the spark plug wire on #4cyl was actaully getting yanked outta the boot and barley touching the plug terminal. So i fixed it and the car is running just right now.
On another note I changed the IAC that was in the impala top end origanlly. That puppy had the whole 220k miles of gunk on it. And surprise my idle is better now and doesnt stumble when shifting from D to N or N to R. I completly forgot to toss in my newer clean one when I put the thing together.
Some pics from the weekend. Overall it was fun. Had a GN guy come check out my set up...its always nice to have someone come over and scope it out and ask questions.
Me and a friend. He was a ways behind me at the end. 15.30-40s Very nice clean car forsure and hes a good racer.
Not sure if you can see the one wire on the top is recessed in a tad.

Old Iac and my newer on I ran before.
Not just a timing error. We actually had the same light. And the car was cutting so i let off and lost by alot.
Me vs my friend in the 4th gen. Were just that good at bulbs... I swear this year launching at lower rpms... I can really tear up the Rts in this car.

re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
Another good weekend racing. It was hot! da was almost 4000 and im only about 660ft above sea level.
But it ran arround 12.69-75 for the weekend. Had a good friend bring out his daytona GTP out. He was just tuning it mainly because any other time he runs high 11s. Beautiful full interior street/show car.
Two weeks off racing then Night under fire at Norwalk where I will be using the 2 step in PRO. So wish me luck!! Im hoping for a 12.30 or so with the 2 step. Im sure the ole camaro will turn some heads at the 50,000+ spectating event there.

They raised up 10 degrees on a 1/4 mile yank. Seems to help a little.

Before the run 100 degrees iat on the datalog. At end of run 110 degrees. So it gains 10 degrees over starting temp compared to 25 or 30 before. Definitely helps.

re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
thats much better so u ended up knocking 15-20* out of it in the end.
the way u typed it i thought temps went up 10* overall
word of advice make sure ur head is back against the seat when u use the 2 step, if it hooks up u should be in the 1.5 60' range or better

ive also been meaning to tell u when u take the headlight out , get a piece of tubing that mounts on the inlet of the turbo to extend the inlet out threw the headlight hole into open fresh air.
it might look a lil stupid but i bet u will knock another 20* out of the air temps , cooler air in = cooler air out
butu must and i repeat must run a screen on the end of the pipe or ur turbo will eat some track/road debris

Crank up the boost a few psi and get some 11's!
On a side note, I think its funny that the "year in review" title was discussing the 2012 season lol.

Yea i should change my title for this thread. I forgot how many seasons ago I started it....
The points races for me are over august 31st. After that having a consistent car is out the window and the chase to the 11s is on.

Re: Fasteddi Turbo 3.1/3100L Hybrid
I know it is. But it would be cool to make it to divisionals in indy in a month. But besides all of that, right now im still at 13psi. I cant wait to see if a 2,3, or 4, psi increase will make the car really speed up or not. And if the turbo will start to run out of steam at higher levels. Of course ill be using the alky for that, so hopefully the engine stays together...

Re: Fasteddis Turbo 3.1/3100 Hybrid
The one time of year my camaro is a trailor queen. Night Under Fire at Norwalk. Only about 30k people watching at time trials and this year for the top 8 in points for sportsman and the top 8 best reaction times in sportsman, they will have a extra race durring the show. Would be awsome to be in the staging lanes right when john force is getting ready to make a pass. And would be amazing to be in eliminations with 50K+ spectators watching.
Im excited and ready to roll. Going to make V6 owners proud and cut that light to be in the race durring the big show. I've nailed 2 perfect lights and many .00x lights this year so far so hopefully I can make it happen again at the right time.
