Power Steering? Noise in the last week
I have been hearing a noise under the hood this last week. I know my high pressure hose is leaking and has been for some time. I make sure I have power steering in it. It does not use much. Last time i added some to it, i think i added to much. That was 4 or 5 months ago. Well the noise started and thought it might be the pulley but i changed that out last year. When i got home today i backed into my spot and unloaded the groceries. I did turn the wheel sharp pulling in. When i moved the car under the covered parking i noticed there was some fluid in front where the power steering is. I checked the steering fluid and it looked full. So how would I know if that is what it is??? Could it be the power steering pump?? Sorry for the long story. Thank guys

Re: Power Steering? Noise in the last week
what color si the fluid u are finding?
also if the pump completly goes out u will know it u will barley be able to turn the wheels while the car is at a standstill. but one the car starts moving it will get easier to turn
what kind of noise are u hearing?

Re: Power Steering? Noise in the last week
Need to check the fluid level on the dipstick (yes, the stick thing on the cap is a dipstick)... The fluid foams if there is too much and then introduces air into the pump and system, creating the noise. Take some fluid out, jack up the front of the car, and with the engine not running, turn the steering wheel from all the way to one direction to all the way to the other direction to bleed the system of air. You can't have the engine running when doing this or the pump may end up cavitating and hurting itself...
Also, depending on the noise, check the weep hole under the water pump pulley and also watch the pulley as the engine is running. Your water pump may be going out.
