Little build up, how much extra hp will I see?

I'm looking at buying a set of 3.1 heads and intake and porting them, buying some pace setter headers, replacing my cat with a straight pipe, and throwing in a bigger cam with a tune, or atleast a delta 260 grind cam, and some bigger injectors. What kind of power increase could I be looking at with just those upgrades? I'm not wanting to throw alot of money into this since I'll be dropping my lt1 in a few years but I want something to tide me over for those years till then.

Re: Little build up, how much extra hp will I see?

From what ive been told, not as much as im sure youre hoping for. All those things will be great improvments for the car but if youre going for horsepower boost is probably your best bet. I knwi it was brought up in your other thread but unless you have some special reason for doing a straight pipe, just go with a high flow cat. Regardless of emissions in your area its just a good idea imo.

Re: Little build up, how much extra hp will I see?

I'm not looking for drastic power, maybe just around 250, enough to scoot around alittle more. After I do this and am still not happy I may throw in a turbo but we will have to see. And I need tossing the idea around about the cat and pipe but the cats can go bad like mine is now, clog, restrict flow, break apart and clog my muffler ect. Straight pipe won't but I'm still looking at it, also I'm going to get some 1.6 roller tip rockers and fiero valve covers.

Re: Little build up, how much extra hp will I see?

do the turbo with ported heads it wont cost u much more to to if u can weld
look at fasteddi's turbo build hes in it for under 800 bucks for everything, and im pretty sure he would even burn u a chip for the ecm to handle the turbo

thats about the only way u will get to the power level u want

ported heads and cam untune will get u around 150-170hp at the wheels

nm just relized u have a 2.8 ported heads and cam will put u around 135-150 rwhp
stock 2.8 will dyno around 90-100 rwhp

I personally ported my heads, all the intakes and dumped at delta 260 grind cam in mine. I think it was worth it at the time. (cams cheep, porting is free..just takes time) Just when porting the heads work on those valve bodies the most. I bet I gained a good 15-20Hp (thats alot when you have 140hp stock) And I used the stock injectors, although the injectors were probly close to bing maxed out. If you get much larger injectors youll have to tune the car for larger ones or it will run pig rich. And really tuning the car for the cam is best for gains.

Look for the other vids on my channel that have cam and heads in the title.

Yes the turbo is the best thing Ive ever done to that car. Part throttle pulls would dust a 3.1L with a cam and ported heads. Id burn up some chip if you ever need them. Turbo's the way to go with a V6 thirdgen!!!
Well worth the $$ and still drives like a normal car when just crusing

Re: Little build up, how much extra hp will I see?

You wont be getting anywhere near 250hp with those mods. The stock 2.8 from an 86 has like 130hp. All the mods suggested are great but theres only so much you can do w/o major mods and/or boost.

This 2.8 isn't from my 86, it's from a 93 s10. I just retained the mpfi, so I really won't see any gains from the mods and work I'd do?

Re: Little build up, how much extra hp will I see?

u will see around 20-35 hp from ported heads and cam, which will be noticable since ur only starting with 120 hp to begin with, which isnt bad for around a 150$ investment

Youll see gains from the valvetrain and head work, but personally Ive only gotten to drive my turboed car for a week part throttle due to my slow tuning and working out the kinks, and it is WAY faster. The cam and heads is noticable but nothing like this turbo. I spent 800 bucks roughly and its worth every little penny. Although I know my cam and heads helps the turbo breath better.

@ dave. I make 250+Hp and ill be the happiest V6 thirdgen driver...better yet I make a 13 second pass and ill be so freaking happy!!! I know its gonna happen once I figure out the boost control and tune better.

3.1 or 3.4 are way better starting points IMHO... Even just starting from a 3.1 vs a 2.8 you automaticly have a 5hp and 20ft lb jump...

Lol I only put $250 into my last turbo endeavor. Not including the nitrous stuff anyway... You can install a turbo cheap without bling new parts, just rebuild a jy turbo and do the fabrication yourself. You'll learn more doing it yourself and feel that sparkly feeling after it runs the first time.
