What is an XS model
My son recently acquired an 89 Firebird with XS markings. It's a black v6, auto, air, cruise, 120 MPH Speedo, spoiler and full ground effects. I read on one post that the XS may have been a limited edition sold in LA for about 6 months. Anyone else know anything about this?

Your best bet will be to ask this question in the Historical board. They'll help you out.
If it turns out to be a rare LA only model, never sell it. Personally, I've never heard of such a beast, and considering a handful of people on a board of 1000+ have a nationwide SE model, I'd say the XS is gunna be pretty damn rare.
Do a search for it on these message forums, you might come up with something.

Nevermind, saved you the trouble. Our friend Drew has already straightened it out... Read this post:

He says they're "not very" rare, but I'd beg to differ... a handful of them sold with 10's of thousands a year qualifies as rare to me... Rare, but not nessesarily worth more.
Anyway, congradulate your son on his purchase, and definatly hang around here for some info and good conversation. You can pick up alot and have fun at the same time. Happy driving.

I also have an XS, I've always noticed the XS emblem on my firebird, never thought twice about it until now.
here's another thread on the XS
"The Firebird XS was limited edition for the Los Angeles CA area only. BTW, it was an 1989, not an 85 or an 86. There was also a Firebird SSA for the Sacramento CA area too. They were basically base model birds with the Trans Am exterior, the only exterior difference between them and real T/A's were the hood, spoiler, and 15 inch wheels. It's all on pg. 70 of "Pontiac Firebird, 1967-2000 Photo History" by George Scala......."
