bad fuel pump??help!!!
ok heres how it is. My car just wont even turn over some times and i thought it was a battery or starter at first but when i use my remote starter that i have for it, it'll sit and crank but not start. then when i go and reset the computer by disconnecting the battery cable it'll go back and be fine for another week or two. so today it happened again only the battery cable deal didnt work so i jumped it off my dads ram and it started up. So i went on about my way thinkin i was fine till i came home and pulled in my driveway and it died. then i tried ot start it and got nothing so i turned the key off and back on waited for about 5 seconds and got a hissing noise from the rear end and it started. SO whats up!!!??? please help me. whats involved in doing a fuel pump if i need to. Also if it matters any i have a 90 auto with 134k on it.
thanks for your help!!

not cetain that you prob is fuel pump but if you must replace here is my suggestion. instead of pulling rear end down for access, pull carpet kit in rear an carefully cut a hole through the floor to access. cut in u shape and bend back, do repair, and bend back. you can resecure a number of ways, 1/4 in aluminum flat bar and rivots, etc. just make for certain that when you go to cut that you are not doing it blind. good lick

Check for loose battery cables or a bad connection....and check the battery voltage. If that's fine....I'd check fuel pressure.

As a person who's replaced the fuel pump in his car twice, I vote -against- the "cut a hole in the car" method. Do it right; drop the rear out. It's not that bad, really!
And get a fuel pressure gauge. It will tell you right away if your pump's dying. I bought my Sunpro one for $40 or so from Pep Boys. (Make sure you get the high pressure fuel injection one; the gauge goes up to 80 PSI.)

i just recently had to go get my fuel pump replaced, it's a bit expensive to take it to a repair shop but honesly your better off having them do it. that way if anything goes wrong they will have to fix it for free.
it cost me about 350 bucks for the whole deal and get my fuel filter changed. might as well changed the filter if your getting a new fuel pump.
dont supply your own parts! i did that and my fuel filter was defective wich was the reason why my fuel pump went out! listen to see if you hear your fuel pump pressurizing to prime. if you dont hear a thing then its the pump for sure.

no offense to 87_Camaro, but if you don't hear the fuel pump prime it doesn't necessarily mean that it's the fuel pump. my car died on saturday night, and it was doing almost the same thing your car was doing. i was almost positive it was the fuel pump, but it ended up being the wire that goes from the alternator to the batt was disconnected. i didn't have an engine light and i didn't hear the fuel pump prime, but all the gauges came on and it cranked but never caught. so before you go spending money on new parts, go under your hood and check every wire you can find

If you guys do a search for my "code 54" chart, it tells you how to diagnose all of the wiring that controls the fuel pump. Code 54 = low voltage to pump, so even if you don't get a code 54, the chart's still valid for checking power to the pump.
