Ignition modular, I'd say.
I'll bet it pings, too.

My car is starting to do a wierd hesitation as well. When I take off at lot light it feels like it bogs and then goes. When I push the gas a little harder it just does it again. The car is going to hit 98,000 mi soon. I am going to replace the plugs, wires, and whatever else I can do next week. Does anyone have any thoughts on what wires I should go for? Also, what other little things can I do? I was also going to take it to the shop to have the timing checked. Thanks!

~Josh~

Dont forget to check the MAF sensor. Run the motor and take look under the hood. Give the sensor a tap with a screw driver or something. If the motor dies, there you have it.

Car: 1986 Firebird
Engine: not stock 2.8

My old Grand Prix used to do the same thing, but only for the first day or 2 after the battery was disconnected.

Yeah can somebody come up with a GOOD answer and NO we don't have MAF sensors on our 2.8/3.4 so thats not it. I've replace every ignition component I can buy, and still does it when it's not warmed up. PLUS after it does this boggy crap it shifts hard into 2nd gear. MAKES me mad.

The answer is in your post. You didn't let your car warm up.

Mine bucks like a mule if I don't 3-5 min. to warm up. You can replace all the parts you want but if it is not allowed to warm you will have drivablity isues.

Vacuum problems making the sensors read false signals. Check your hoses for a break.

If i'm not mistaken, the sensor right after the airbox and before the throttle body (which lies on the intake track right above the radiator) is the MAF sensor.

Check hoses for breaks... check your O2 sensor, and advance your timing... I'll bet your timing chain is beginning to stretch and causing it to retard, causing the hesitation and slowness...

The 2.8 in 89 does have a MAF sensor but does not have a MAP sensor.
Check EGR

Try Cangeing the Mass Air Flow Sensor, same problem was here, got my butt kicked by a CRX that I could have taken because of the MAF so try that (dont know how cheap that is)
