Several questions . . .

Hey everyone, I'm new to this board and a new camaro owner. I sold my 2.8 S10 for a 2.8 camaro. I'm forced to be a fan of the 2.8 after several engine swaps\mods.

Several questions . . .
1. I'm thinking about swapping in a 3.4L block. Besides the 93-early95 camaros/firebirds, are there any other cars that have this engine? I think the grand-am GT does, but this is FWD, would that be a problem?
2. My S10 ran the best when I bumped the timing to 12* BTDC. That had a TBI, what timing works best for the MPI?
3. The car has 136000 miles on it, should I change the O2 sensor during my next tuneup?
4. Performance chips . . I was not impressed with the superchip on my S10 ($20 on ebay, oh well). Would any chips help along with some good performance mods? I hear fastchip is good.

Thanks for the help, I've been reading through the posts for a week now and like what I see!

I think we can all sum it up.. Do not toss a 150 plus away on a chip.. Think CAM or save for a NOS kit, but make hte chip a final mod...

Car: 1991 Corvette Coupe
Engine: L98
Transmission: 700R4/4L60 same trans different name
as for the 3.4 block, the only ones you can use are RWD blocks.......the FWD would require too much work to be adapted as was previously brought to my attention

Welcome to the board!! Yeah, that seems like you got some good mileage out of the O2 sensor... might as well change it. I think the furthest anyone's felt a gain by advancing the timing has been 12 degrees.

Oh- and make sure your balancer's timing mark hasn't moved, either... it should line up at "0" when the #1 piston (front PASSENGER side, not front driver's side like every other engine) is at TDC. High mileage can mean a balancer's outer ring has slipped...

Thanx everyone, great post KED85. Did the 3.4 swap make a big difference in performance? I may be doing this swap sooner than I thought . . . after I quieted the belts I noticed a slight engine knock, just my luck.
Anyway, was there a reason you didn't pull the engine and tranny out together? Or was it just your preference?

AT THAT TIME, my tranny worked fine so there was NO REASON to do extra work!
NOW, my Firebird is in the shop for the tranny!
Before you do this swap, get your tranny rebuilt.
Evryone whom has done this swap, goes thru their tranny, real quick.
Yes, my car pulls like a Freight Train, now.
IT is an incredible difference.
That's why I keep recommending do this swap, don't bother playing with this & that of your current engine, except to get the foundatin secured (ignition/fuel system/emissions systems).
I paid $800 and got a whole world of performace increases, including real world gas milage increase, too (once I kept my foot outta the gas/FUN pedal!!).
I can't wait to take it to a drag strip and see how well I may do.
I actually enjoy driving this Firebird more than my 1974 Corvette, because my Firebird, with the factory WS6 Suspension, is a more pleasant ride.
And, in LA traffic, the Firebird is easier to drive & see out of, to see the other cars.
My Corvette, needs some work in it's steering system. Like a complete steering rebuild (pump, steering box, and the hoses and ram). If you know Corvettes, you know what I speak about.
