Ok, chips, pick a winner once & for all!

Okay, i see JET stage 2 as the best one day, then fastchip, then spend the $$ on a custom chip.

anyone have some good solid info on which chip to buy for my 88 2.8 auto 'bird?

also, i forget who said it, but they said they didn't see a diff. till they cleared their computer. how would i go about doing that? thanks guys -

I hear Jet is one of the best chips you can get for a v6 f-body. And to clear your computer just pull the positive cable off the battery and let it sit for a min or so. Then just reconnect the cable and your all set to go.

Man, where would you go about buying one of those chips? Summit or jegs? How much do they usually run for?

I called summit to order the jey chip stage 2, and the guy there told me that jet does give more HP, but hypertech gives you more power at the wheels. And I have noticed a difference. I can also drive at 110 for about 25 min and not even pass the half way poit on my thermostat

Fastchip stage 2, 160 therm and K&N Filters.. To reall notice a gain that makes a nice combo to do at once... If ya want you can also get a Jet Chip and their power pulleys for a nice gain.. Just don't do a chip alone..

www.fastchip.com
www.jetchip.com
www.hypertech.com

I believe those are the websites. If you get a jetchip, order it somewhere else other than their website. Either that or make sure you get a bottle of Vasoline too. I learned the hard way.

Hahaha Ovrclck350, I was like, vaseline? What for? hah. NEwayz, JET wants $160 for their chip.

Ed at fastchip wants the same price for a custom 2.8 chip. So why was the site ordering so bad for ya?

Damn, figures I can get a hypertech chip for my car for like $125 shipping included. Are they really that bad?

I sure hope Jet and Hypertech do MORE with their V6s eproms than they do with their V8s. On a V8, neither do anything. Add a couple of degrees of spark in the mid range, a little extra fuel and lock the TCC a few MPHs higher....that's its.

IMO, the modifications they do to a V8's eprom is basically useless and a complete waste of money. Given that there is so much more knowledge on the V8's eproms, I doubt they would do any better for a V6.

At least Ed Wright (Fastchips) admits he cannot do a V6 eprom...not because he is unable to, but because he has not enough information to do it properly and give a noticeable difference. I say there is a hidden message there when Ed Wright says he cannot do a V6 eprom.

Ed Wright doesnt mind charging you 170 bucks for a V6 chip, but now he's admitting he doesnt know anything about a V6 eprom. Classy.

BTW I had a fastchip stage II and I didnt notice a difference hardly at all. My 1/4 mile time didnt change in the slightest.

The problem with the Firebird V6s is that they often used different ecms than the V8s, even though OTHER GM V6s used the same ECM as the V8s. That is how everyone gets an SD 7730 ECM for our TPI cars when they convert from MAF to SD, or if they have an SD car and their ECM goes bad.

If the V6s used the same ECM as our V8 cars, it would be very easy to modify the $8D eprom used on the TPI SD 7730 to work on a V6. Virtually every byte of that ECM is known. Then this would be a viable option for you V6 guys that would like to look at burning your own eprom, which ultimately provides the best results for WOT, part-throttle and idle.

FYI, most PROM writers only concentrate on WOT and do nothing for part-throttle. For a modified motor, you want to do both.

I just wished there was some V6 owner that lived local to me that would let me do some investigating on the ECM and Memcal.

I own a 305 TBI and one of my friends owns a 92 3.1. We have tried everything. Daily driving to dyno tests.

1)Fastchip- The only thing fast about it is that it didnt take long to install. Both custom and regular.

2)Superchip- Dont waste your time. Keeps factory set rpm limiter and speed limiter. Works only at full throttle.

3)J.E.T. Stage II- Very good gains, Removable speed limiter and raised rpm limiter if equipped.

4) Hypertech Thermo-master- Ok gains, but even factory direct they charge you extra for speed limiter removal.

Say what you will but these are real world tests. Also order staight from jet to get the no fuel shut off option.

So does this mean that buying a performance chip (not something totally customized) is a complete waste of money (money that should be spent elsewhere)?

What, nobody reviewed the ADS chip? It's in my basement again, the GM chip is back in my computer. Glenn, I got the #'s off it (and my computer), I'll have to bring them in tomorrow for ya.
