Go to the Headgasket of the class.
Bet you are loosing water, too.
I just wrapped up mine on my S-10 Blazer (same engine).
I did mine, myself.
Good luck. It's a bloody messy job, very time consuming.

I've heard that white smoke on startup can also be leaking valve seals. The valve seals sit on the valves, and keep oil from dripping into the cylinder. When oil drips in as the car sits, when you start it, the oil burns off, and gives you start-up smoke.
However, my valve seals have been leaking since '96, and my start-up smoke has always been blue. I don't know where people got the "white" from... search the tech area for "white smoke" and "valve seal" and you'll probably find those messages.

well, i'm no mechanic, so don't take me word for word on this. But when my car died, i had a problem with smoke coming out of the exaust, the smoke was white, and came at random bursts. Although, this isn't the same problem you're experiencing because your's is at startup. Now, when mine happened, a friend had put two plugs in that were the wrong size, so when the engine was turning, two cylinders weren't firing, I think the gas was probably just burning off the block without a true ignition and was passing out my exaust. But that's just a guess. Maybe, you have one or a few foul plugs, that aren't firing when the engine is first started. , but like i said, i'm no mechanic.

I had the same thing happen to me all it was was condensation in my lines, try running dry gas, and see if that helps. There's some real good stuff at autozone called water remover, made by castrol.

You always have white smoke coming out of the exhaust, even when the engine is hot?
if yes, you'r "burning" coolant,
if it's only after you start the cold engine, it's from condensation and you don't have to worry about.
your engine also could run to rich and part of the gas is not getting burned.
How is your gas/mls result?
