Squeaking!! And overheating....waterpump?
Ok, my car is just sucking in the heat. Today in tucson I don't think it even reached 100 but my car was running hot as hell!! So anyways, I saw my car was leaking underneath my car. I think it was either water or antifreeze. So I checked the water pump for leakage and it didn't seem like it was. But, my car has been squealing from around where the water pump is and I read in my haynes manual that if the water pump shaft bearings are dead, then it will squeal. I checked my belt first to verify it wasn't just the belt slipping and my belt is great and tight. So, is there any other way to check if my water pump is working good enough? You know, to properly cool the engine. Please any help will be greatly appreciated!

Pull the belt off, then try and move the water pump pulley around..if it moves its shot.

I think what Graeme means is to try and wobble the pully side to side, and in and out. You should be able to spin the pully by hand, the more 'broken in' it is, the easier it'll be. Try running the car for a while in one spot, trying to figure out where the water is coming from. That will help tremendously. If it's coming from the weep hole in the front of the WP, then the WP is bad. Otherwise it could be a leaky hose, a freeze plug... ect. Check and make sure the ALT isn't squeeling. Usually WP's make a 'marbles in the engine' sound, while ALT's tend to squeel. but hey, who knows.
