Say goodbye to my f-body
I got my car back from the shop yesterday for the oil leak. He couldn't find or fix it because too much came out to tell where it was coming from. But anyways if I got it fixed it would start leaking again in about a week. My car's engine is dying. The only way to fix it is to get it rebuilt. The WHOLE engine. So thats not even worth the $800-$2,000 that it would cost. So I have to say goodbye to my f-body. The body's not even in good enough shape to put in a new engine. The chassis will break. It's not strong, but it is rusty as f*ck. So nows my chance to get the firebird I've always wanted. 1992 3.4l red firebird. Gotta find one first though. Sucks being in Massachusettes. Not that many firebirds. Anywho, I'll post some more when I find a car that might be worth putting money into.

I hope you don't think that you can find a 92 Firebird with a 3.4l. At least from the factory anyways. 93 was the first year for that engine. If you want a 92 V6, you will have to settle for the 3.1 or drop in a 3.4 yourself.

92 is still thirdgen, and they didn't make 3.4 untill 93, and then in 97( i think thats the right year) they changed to 3.8, so 93-96 had the 3.4

93-95.
95 was a change over year, to go to 3.8.
You are every wise for that decision.
Shame you cannot fly out to LA. The cars are a dime a dozen

I don't know what i'm gonna do with it yet. Don't know if I'm gonna drop in a 3.8L or get rid of it. If I drop in a 3.8 I'll be lookin for a sport compact to save me gas till it's done. Is it possible to slap a firebird frontend(headlights, bubmber, etc.) onto my camaro? It's really hard to find third gen firebirds/camaros in good enough condition around here. I don't know. I need to do a lot of thinking. I also need a second job. Anyway, let me know what you guys think. What would you do in my position?(seriously) If you made $335 a week, had to give your dad $100/week, and had to pay insurance, and had to save money for a new car. By the way I'm only 20, and spend money like it comes from trees. Thanx for all your input. looking forward to hearin from all of ya. L8R,
Mike

If I was you, I'd find a 1985 F body, in nice shape.
Why a 1985?
Everything is not computer, except the engine.
SO, you can do as I did, swap in a 3.4 long block.
I'd say do that to your current platform, but, in this instance, I say no.
Here's why.
The carb.
Those things stink.
I have one on my 1985 S-10 Blazer and it does the job, but, when I first got this F-Bird, it was so far superior to the carb set up.
I've had fuel injected cars since 1978 (1975 Opel Fuel Injected Wagon) and love the way it works and responds.
I've heard, back east, you can find the 3.4 blocks for pennies.
I'll bet the same on your desire for a 1985 car.
1986, is when the speedos went to electric and some other stuff.
Cheapest out is to keep adding oil. I do that to my 1974 Corvette (the heads are worn, big deal, oil is cheap & I'm building new heads).
Shame you can't make it out to LA, these things are so cheap out here, but it'll cost a grand to ship a car cross country.
I know, I did this twice.
Hey, get a hold of FORD Rustangs-R-US, his Dad sells cars close by ya (lot closer than LA). See if he can assist.

I plan to do that one day... drive down to CA, pick up a rust-free beater, then rent a u-haul & trailer to bring it back. Then I'll restore the thing... (sigh) Yep, one day...
