Chalk one up for the 6ers! (tech at the bottom)

A friend in an eighties Cutlass with a 305/4bbl, K&N filter, no other mods that I know of. Came up to him at a light, we both revved up, I spun a little, but still SPANKED him. Second light, I gave him a car length run ahead of me, and SPANKED HIM AGAIN!!!! He was pissed, but we were both laughing about it.

Also, I ran some numbers on the HP calculator (is it here or at another site?), and it gave me back 165 HP, so apparently the mods are working. What I want to know is why my times are so bottomed out then (17's)? Any mods I can do to help apply the HP to the pavement? Or what are everyone's launch techniques? Thanks ahead guys, and don't listen to the 8's.

us V8 guys might know something about how to launch...otherwise we're pretty much useless. Do you have a stick or auto?

If you have an auto I would suggest launching off the break at about 1500.

If you have a stick I would say that you should pop the clutch out at 2000, then after the car pops and is diving, floor the **** out of it.

of course these will need to be fine tuned- but its a good place to start.

I've got an auto and usually launch around 2500, but I always get a little spin, and if the track is wet, I get mad spin and my already crappy time drops into the 18's. thanks for the advice, I"ll have to try it.

with my auto, i rev to 2k. With my foot on the brake, then jump off the brake. It'll give me about 1 tire rotation, and a chirp, but the car really moves. I've dried 1500, but then i'm to far away from the powerband.

Well I launch at 2200 RPM at about half throttle, tire spins a tad, chirps and grabs, then I floor it. This gives me about 1.7's 60' times and about 13.9 1/4's on 235/60 street tires at 32psi. There are manythings to try, just try them and see what works best for you guys.

BTW where is this thing to calculate your HP?
