Crate Engine

Are there currently any High Performance Crate 3.1 Engines out there? I don't really wanna go to an 8, and I can't find a 3.1 block to build my own anywhere close, SOOOOO.....or even any 3.4L engines.

Ked, please don't put in "Drop a 3.4 in it. I did. Pulls like a freight train." No offense, but I believe if I read that in one more post I'll take my monitor and throw it across the room. Thanks.....

I don't think there's any 3.1 crates.. I haven't heard of any. I don't think GM uses the 3.1 anymore, do they?

I"m pretty sure they still use it on some/most of their little cars, but last time I talked about a FWD engine, I got schooled, so disregard all knowledge of mine.

After installing my brand new 15 inch monitor I realize that it's not as nice as my shattered 17 inch laying on the floor...

Still lookin for crates of either 3.1 or 3.4. And does anyone know the exact HP diff between the two?

!!!!!!
Very funny.
There are crate motors of the 3.4.
They cost $1600. Local Chevy dealers.
Sorry, after driving this Firebird with only the 2.8 and not being able to drive the 1974 Corvette like I can the Firebird (I can't see that easy outta the Corvette for quick lane changing in LA traffic), it does....... WOOOOOOO-WOOOOOOOO

Seriously, no one in your area can/will help you locate a running 3.4?
I once called a place in Fla, they offered to ship me a 3.4 for $700 total.

Do you want a 3.4 shipped from Los Angeles area to you? I can arrange the calls for you.

We once had a Cadillac, that this Firebird acts like. Lots of solid, smooth, continuous power to the upper RPMS. This swap just has not ceased to amaze me

Will a 3" pipe system really make that much difference in the current power I have? I know a CAI certainly will.

Thanks Ked, If I DO definately decide to do it I may be in touch. I don't want to say I'm going to do it, then change my mind and back out. I'd rather weigh all the options because I may sell an buy a v8 bird. After looking, I can get $5000 for mine here in the summer, and I've seen 91 Vert 305's for $5500 in Dallas. I've also seen 91-92 TA's for around the same.
It'll be a little while tho, I'm still trying to pay off my college and my car repairs which sucks w/ a fast food job. I'm workin 44 hours a week, takin 18 class hours, and already lost all my academic scholarships. I guess I forgot to sign up for the "rich parents" list somewhere along the line.....

Oh well, summer's almost here, I build swimming pools in the summer and bank hardcore......

Don't be concerned about saying yes, than backing out.
This isn't a marriage proposal
You can get $5K for your car, as is?
That's a damn great option!
Your Grandfather will give you $5K for a broken engine car?

Check out every option you can, as it will only be in your favor!

I'll bet in your search for the 3.4 engine, you turn up a great option as a wrecked convertible, and all it needs it some TLC!
Ask bank loan officers for leads or insurance company people for local leads, too!
Get the convertible now! Cheaper in wintertime!
Even ask the cops, they may know.

BUT, this wrecking yard 3.4 engine is a very economical way to get your car back on the road, especially after all the work you put into your current car foundation. That was the major problem I had when my 2.8 blew. The rest of the car was in such great shape (especially the tranny, as it was fresh rebuild).
Use those college brain cell smarts now

HuH? I don't remember mentioning my grandfather. Plus, there's nothing wrong with the engine in my car....

I called my uncle askin him what size engines we have laying around, and he said besides a couple 454's we have a 305 and a T350 tranny. Called a friend of mine w/ a banged up 87 Formula w/ a blown head gasket. I can have the WHOLE car for $500. My uncle says he wants the car to build a race car, and he'll help me build a Hella-305. I looked up stock numbers, and there's only around 15HP diff between the 305, and 350, SOOOOOOO, 305 Modded TPI, here I come.....

Screw it, I'm goin TPI 350.....that'll work...
