Ok.. THM-350 wasn't produced in any form that I know of for the 60 degree v6.. 700r4 is another matter.
The 700r4 replaced the 200c4 in our cars in 1985.. you might need a transmission crossmember and possibly a driveshaft, but those are only possibilities.. note you do have to get a 700r4 *specifically* for our 60* v6 blocks, v8 blocks are 90*, and no v8 trans will bolt up, even a v8 700r4.. and no, it's not just the bellhousing.. totally different transmission.. (this is the absolute biggest nuciance I have found about our cars.. you wanna drop an 8 in? great.. trans time.. which brings the possibility of needing a driveshaft.. v8 will shred our rear ends pretty quick too.. oi)

Ummmm, the 8 will not shred a V6 rear end, its the same rear end used in V8 cars. As far as drive shaft that should line up as well but i am not 100% sure on that, altho i have heard that you can get a aluminum driveshaft from a V8 and it will bolt into a V6... dunno haven't tryed it...

The V-6 2.8-3.1-3.4 tranny (700R40 will not work on a V-8.
Period.
Here is a tip, but so much effort.
The internals of a 60 degree V-6 700R4 tranny are the same as the 90 degree (small block Chevy or the 4.3, 90 degree V-6).
Get the correct tranny.
I was given a V-8 to slip under the hood of my 1985 Firebird.
I didn't.
Would have needed another tranny.
I went the 3.4 V-6 option. I won!
This car I got had a already rebuilt tranny in it!

Get the correct tranny for your application.

Yup, all 82-92 f-body axles are the same, regardless of what engine came in the car.

And 99% of all internals for the V6 700r4 are the same as the v8 700r4. There's a few minor differences- the v8 has a few more clutches in the clutch packs, there's a "thick sprag" in the v8 700r4 where the v6 one has a "thin sprag and a spacer"- and I forget the rest. But one thing's for sure (that you touched on)- a v6 700r4 will hold a v8 700r4's rebuild kit.

Definately try to get a 700r4 up there. The 200C is a poorly designed trans. You can get all the parts off a junkyard firebird/camaro.

One note for junkyard hopping, though. You want as new of a 700r4 as possible. Here's a quick breakdown, and a grading system for "is this a good trans to buy from the junkyard?":

1990-1992: (A+) Best 700r4's made; GM perfected them

1987-1989: (A) GM fixed major stuff, including a newly designed fluid pump, and an auxiliary valve body. The fluid pump of previous years would fail, burning up the trans.

1985-1986: (C) GM fixed a TON of problems with the 700r4. They also increased the input spline count over previous years.

1983-1984: (F) GM's first attempt at the 700r4 wasn't a good one. Chances are good that the 83-84 700r4 you find in a junkyard will be exactly that- junk. Get these as a last resort- and don't pay much for them. Think of these of as on the same level as your "metric" TH-200C.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't the tail shafts different between the 200 and the 700? I thought that one is longer than the other.

Yup, that's why he needs to swap driveshafts. I think the TH-200C is the same length as the TH-350, but the TH-700r4 is longer than both of 'em.
