Re: I smell gas

Your car might be running rich, I know mine does, so I smell gas sometimes. But that's something you want to figure out quick.

I temporarily have my catalytic converter hollowed out till I can get a new one and the exhaust smells like gas, maybe yours is hollowed out.

Re: I smell gas

There is a fitting with a tube coming out of it in the fuel rail under the plenum on the driver side. this fitting & tube feeds the cold start injector. the gasket below the fitting can leak, i would check it. Also the two rubber lines that feed the fuel rail, you'll see them on the driver's side just behind the a/c compressor, those can leak if not tight, or they can split and leak fuel. those are the causes of gas smell i my have found with my '88 sport coupe.

Re: I smell gas

I thought my gas smell was from my evap system, I was going to block off my charcoal canister and go to a vented gas cap untill I could get everything to replace the canister and purge valve. When I went to pep-boys They let me take the cap out to see if it was the right tread(their system only shows the origional replacement), I took off the locked cap the PO had put on the car and found out it was a vented cap. Since the evap system was installed and I had changed all the vacuum hoses I bought a non vented cap. No more gas smell, and reclaimed about 3mpg. So check your canister, vacuum hoses and gas cap.

Re: I smell gas

Pull the vacuum hose on the fuel press. regulator, common for the diaphram to go bad.
Put a press. gauge on it to check for fuel pressure leak down.
