Good find, Monkie I put it in my Faves list to get a better look later. I love the guy's disclaimer:

BE AWARE - Any performance modifications listed on this website are NOT guaranteed to produce ANY horsepower, nor are they guaranteed that your engine will not BLOW UP AND MELTDOWN!!! Thank you for your support.. happy motoring!

Well it was the body style before the newest one. And it was a GT. So I figured it was a 4.6 cause I doubt I could have beat the 5.0 but guess I did Well anyways, I fixed it for ya!

Car: 85' Firebird (Project), 92' RS
Engine: 2.8L, LS1

Axle/Gears: 3.42 Open , 10 Bolt (ukn)
just remember that just because it's a 5.0 doesn't mean that it's a horsepower hog, the new 4.6 actually outproduces the 5.0's. It's like a 1987 350ci. vs. 2001 346ci. There is a hp jump.

AOL has to be an addiction like crack or something. I've quit it like 10 times since when we first got it in 1992 or 1993. If the TimeWarner AOL merger goes through I might have it again! Time for DSL....

You guys gotta get off AOL.. spend your $30/month for a real place. That page pops right up for me

Anyway, I see that guy revamped his site! I got the PAW catalog over the Thanksgiving weekend, and noticed that there was no Sealed Power or Total Seal rings for the 2.8 pistons. Kinda made me wonder where the guy got his rings from the https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/000445.html message. I thought the guy was lying, but I didn't know you could ask them to custom-make rings.

$100's kind of steep for rings, though. Do you guys know if there's any dyno sheets for a gapless ring as opposed to a conventional ring?

Damn, seeing that page inspires me to build up a nice V6 engine and not swap to a V8.

Ok wait a sec you guys. I looked this over and what I have seen is something totally strange. He is taking Import parts (intake) and putting them on a camaro. This is nice and all and I have thought about this but this is basically making our cars into ricers... Im serious! I mean look the damn engine looks like it is side ways! Whats up with that!? Im confused as hell!

He's totally right. Remember Monkie, all GM FWD cars (except maybe the early '80s Eldorados/Rivieras/Toronados) have their engines mounted transversely...meaning the engine sits sideways. They started doing this when they started downsizing cars...transversely mounting an engine helps the car stay shorter. Engines in RWD applications need to be mounted traditionally (longitudinal mounting) in order to be able to drive the tranny properly.

sorry to butt in, to confirm the above: my mom has an early 80's Eldorado and my cousin had an early 80s Rivera (they share the same body). The engines are North South like an f-body but are still FWD.

My sis(and I for a bit) had a mid '80s Buick Skylark with an East West setup. It had a 2.8V6. What a POS. It seemed as heavy as my '79 Monte Carlo V8 5.0L (first car) but had no power in comparison. And it overheated like a ****

Thanks for the input Tas...like I said, I wasn't sure how they set the motors up in those old boats. I knew they had enough room to mount them longitudinally, and thats why I wasn't sure. Never have opened the hood on one!!
