1985 2.8 v6 multi problems
i have a 1985 v6 2.8 camero i just bought when i start itup i have to crank on it for a while before it starts up which i dont understand as it has an electric fuel pump then if i shut it off and try to start it back up it starts right up but if i wait about 3 or more hours i have to crank on it more and when it does start up it revs up for a few seconds then idles back down i put it in drive and it will run good after a few miles at normal speed its fine when i give it more gas to where it should downshift(as when climbing a hill ) it starts stalling but if i ease up on gas it runs fine i can stop car shut off engine and start it up right away and put it in drive and it will run good for about a mile or two then it will start acting up again the check engin light is on and when i do the self diagnostic test on it it comes up with codes 32,34,54 which the book says 32 is the egr 34 is the maf sensor and 54 is fuel pump circuit where to start any help is please
i was tracing out wires and found a big red wire that goes from the 12 power block on the side of radiator that was pulled into the wire goes from the power block to the wad of wires going in the cab on passenger side but it got dark befor i could trace it any futher
also as far as i know fuel pump, distributer cap, ignition moduel, fuel filter, coil, spark plugs, have all been changed

Re: 1985 2.8 v6 multi problems
i fixed the grp problem but still have the fuel pump problem another question is what keeps the fuel primed in the system because after the car sits for a while there is no pressure when i push the schreader valve there the fuel system losses its prime and requires me to crank on the starter until it builds enough oil pressure to turn on the fuel pump then it fires up i figured this out by jumping out the oil pressure switch which causes the pump to turn on im not sure what keeps the fuel presure in the fuel system. any help ?

Sounds like the fuel pump is getting kicked on by the oil pressure switch, how long do you have to crank it when its cold? And if that is the case I think it means the fuel pump relay is bad, MAF sensor is pretty straight forward, try cleaning it and replace it if its still troublesome, and the EGR I would check the vac hoses for leaks, otherwise the diaphragm is probably bad.

ok got the egr problem fixed it was a vacume hose now all that shows up when i do a system check is code 42 and code 54
54 im going to by a new fuel pump relay tomorow hopefuly fix this one
42 check for bad conection between HEI and EST what is HEI and EST book does not tell i was looking at how to set timming and it said that you have to disconect the EST wire on the distributer not sure which wire they are talking about there is two plugs on the distributer that i can see both go to the coil wich is the EST wire
or is there supose to be another wire i didnt find

I think the EST wire they are referencing is a connector by the heater box/blower motor. It's on the firewall. I think it's brown with a stripe. There is an intermediate connector that you disconnect while you are setting timing. Is it possible that someone left it unhooked?
