Re: 88 2.8
What are you looking for? A replacement 2.8? Any rwd 2.8/3.1/3.4 from '82-'96 will bolt in. Avoid pre-'85 blocks (and '85 S-10/Blazer) because of the small mains. I'd look for a 3.4 4th gen.

Re: 88 2.8
What's wrong with the one in there now? Is the bottom end trash?
You'll need to keep everything above the cylinder heads exactly the same on your car. While you're at it, throw some head gaskets, front and rear oil seals and timing chain and cover gaskets, and a water pump on there. Put the engine in and go.

Re: 88 2.8
Yeah that sounds like a decent price. These 60 degree v-6's are not the most sought after engines. I love them but they are not as common as the 350 small block. I would try to buy the engine in a vehicle so I could hear it run before its pulled or I would see about getting a warranty. Even if its 90 days. You will know if its bad by then. Swapping an engine is a great learning experience. Then you can take your old engine and build it if you plan on staying with a 6.

Re: 88 2.8
if you use the 3.1 or the 3.4 the IAT AND TPS sensor plugs were different on those throttle bodies. just re use the 2.8 TB and your golden (other than the sensor they are the same TB. I'm having to rewire mine cause I dont have the orginal 2.8 TB)
