stock??? 3.5 v6 in the G6. 252bhp stock.

edit: the 3.6L in the 5th gen Camaro wins. 304bhp stock, and it's still a 60*

Re: v6

Of the factory stuff yea.

But the records are kinda still up for grabs otherwise. Back in the 80's the baddest were 300hp iron head circle track motors that were rarely below 6000 rpm. Nowadays people regularly put together mild hybrids that top 300hp and are daily driven. Project89 put down around 350hp with his iron head turbo motor. There's stories of someone putting down around 500hp with a turbo hybrid build. I've only heard rumors though. Really uncharted territory for the most part. We're really only just starting to discover the limitations of these motors.

Iron headed 60* v6 in a 3rd gen. I've gone 14.97@89.95 in the 1/4mile. No nitrous, no nothin. I don't know actual hp numbers on it. I do have video of it, though.

Yeah, its kinda weird that our engines have been around since the '80s, this board has been here since late '90s, and yet we are just starting to see good numbers from our boat anchors.....

I'm confused too, the 60/6 has been GM's mainstay engine from the early 80s all the way into the 2000s, why isn't there an overflowing abundance of aftermarket parts and such by now?

Because the 60* was mainly used in the family cars that aren't raced. When most people think of a performance car, they don't usually think of a Lumina, Impala, or a G6. Same for performance engines. How many drag cars do you see out there that have V6 engines? I've only ever heard of maybe one or 2 that didn't have a V8, and one of them was a 4-banger that got head starts. Heck, for those imports out there running I6 and V6 way-overboosted engines with fuel injection, there is a whole other drag racing league for them. Can't think of the name offhand at the moment.

Re: v6

Same difference. The only difference between them was the number of doors, and possibly the body styling on the Monte in the later years. They are still, for the most part, family cars, having a full backseat, and FWD. I mean, what everyday guy can you think of that would REALLY want to soup up their TransSport or Venture (3400 equipped)? About the only popular parts available aftermarket are fuel injectors for those, and some reprogrammers.

There was a guy at Keystone Raceway (now Pittsburgh Speedway) that had a Fiero with a Grand National engine stuffed into it. Those are 90* V6's i believe but who cares, he was ripping off 12 second passes with it lol.

Shows what a properly set up car can do. Gears, traction and a higher stall converter can make you launch like an f'ing rocket nomatter what the motor. That and a little help from the launch mode routine in the '730.

There are 2 built 3500's in Iowa that are at or over 300 HP @ the crank N/A. One is in a 92 Sunbird and the other is on the floor in my garage under some boxes.

This makes me want to get an ALDL cable and download a good tuning program to my laptop and tune my '730 like you always say to do bl85c.

I want my car to be a sleeper A V6 with the sound and power of a V8.

engine swaps were cheap. now people realize that they can still get decent fuel economy out of the 2.8/3.1/3.4 engines and be reasonably quick at the same time.

i'm starting on a 3.1/3400 hybrid for my Camaro. shooting for around 220-250rwhp through an auto. and it's for auto-x

That's different... Import guys seem to be crazy. But then, so do our aftermarket manufacturers, not getting in on the huge numbers of V6s out there. Maybe one of these days they'll wake up and see the dollar signs in the 60* V6...

Re: v6

there is plenty of aftermarket for these engine, Comp, Crane, Lunatti and others make flat tappet cams, you have headers and plenty other options. WOT-Tech sells roller cams, Forged pistons, ported top ends, crank scrapers, and LOTS of other stuff.

Here are some of the flat tappet and solid roller cams available.

Here is the master lobe listing for Gen 3 hyd-Roller cams:

I ended up hurting that motor. So, parts from it are for sale. Some parts were junk, though. Let me know if you want any of the stuff from it. Its cheap, I just want them out of my garage.

What would give me the most bang for my buck? Not a bolt on power-adder, but something that would really help the car out, my cars been running like a beast lately and I want to make it run even better and make it more powerful!

Re: v6

Has anyone used the 3.4 stroker replacement engine made by ARI? I've considered buying one if i can find some one who has used this company with good results. My 86 camaro only has 68k on the engine but is starting to feel a little less powerful then when i got her. If you haven't used this company, maybe suggest another one if you can. thank you all for any input.

They sell stock GM parts and act like it's some big upgrade. they also sell the same cams that you can get for cheaper from Summit.

If you want a 3.4 then grab one from a 93-95 Camaro at the salvage yard.

Biggest thing I would say is a decent sized cam. But, you really should do other things to help it...port work, higher compression ratio, headers,...

Agreed.

A cam will be less effective if you don't have the port flow to support it.

ARI has excellent customer service. Call them and find out yourself. Plus, they keep all of the parts they sell in stock. they'll ship them the day you order. You won't have to wait a week for summit to get the part from the manufacturer then another week to get to your door.

i ordered pistons in july last year and finally canceled them in november because summit kept putting them on back order. i called ARI and got them the next day. It took 3 weeks to get my headers from summit too. it must depend on the item ordered

I just don't trust any company who thinks it's ok to bore out a 60v6 block .120". Sure there are success stories but i'm sure there are many failures as well.

the biggest piston ari sells is .060 over stock (3.5639"). any bigger and you're flirtin with disaster. the only block i know that can handle .120 is an early 60s 283

the 3.4 stroker kit they sell uses the 3.31" stroke crank and they bore the block out to accept the 3.62" piston of the 3.4. This was discussed years ago on 60degreev6.com.

Re: v6

3280 is the car weight? a little punctuation goes a long way. However, you must have bad tires on the car or something. Otherwise they won't spin that much. or maybe the track is really bad. My car with the highly modded 3.1 and 4.10 gears on street tires wouldn't hardly spin while holding the brakes at the track (it would spin like crazy on the street).
is your car lowered?

Re: v6

we need more details to help. Ok, 16.28 sounds about like a stock v6 in the 1/4. you slowed down 2.6 secs with the nitrous? were you spinning when you launched? or was it not running right on top end with the nitrous or what? what were your 60' times?

Re: v6

Yeah, you need traction! You gotta do some suspension work or atleast put some good tires on it! My car stock would pull a 2.37 60' all day long. Finally got to a 2.04 60' on street tires with my built motor. The only suspension mod that had been done was boxed in LCAs (and maybe SFCs, don't remember for sure if I had them in yet...think I did). However, I would have guessed that you'd run a better mph. were you spraying the whole way down the track or just out of the hole? Is the nitrous automatic on a switch or on a manual button?
