3.1 V6, To Sell or Not to Sell?
Restoring a 90 RS with a strong running 3.1 V6. I am considering selling the V6 and swapping for a 350. How easy/hard is it to get rid of the 3.1 engines and what do they typically sell for? Thinking that if I'm going to paint, I prefer to do the engine swap before I paint. If anybody has an interest, I am located in NW Indiana.

No need to embellish on that wonderful IQ of yours. If you want to swap to a 350, go back to the forum listings, and, umm, look for the thread that is titled "engine swaps", and not exclusively for the V6. BTW, welcome to my ignore list....

Re: 3.1 V6, To Sell or Not to Sell?
my god, all he did was ask what the 3.1 could sell for and you give him a load of crap about fast running v6 cars, which is a 4th gen and a 3.4 btw not a 3.1, and throw in a comment about his IQ to top it off.
the OP wants to use a small block, so why not leave it at that? He nmever asked how hard it was to swap the engine, just what the 3.1 could sell for.
the 3.1 is not a very desirable engine, its nothing special, so its not going to fetch big bucks, but if its in good running order i dont see why you couldn't get 500 bux for the complete pull out. engine, maybe include the trans since its no good with the small block anyway.
At the end of the day, the engien will only sell for what somebody else will pay for it. I would put up an add for the motor and take offers, maybe 500 obo?

Re: 3.1 V6, To Sell or Not to Sell?
The fact that it is a 4th gen is absolutely irrelevant, as it is a direct swap for the 2.8/3.1 engines. Last I checked, this is an open V6 forum, and my initial response was not written out of context, was it? However, his response to mine, was. If he wants to swap to a 350, that is great, but for you to think that I'm the only one in the V6 forum who will question WHY he would want to swap to a 350 in the first place is absolutely hilarious. As for the 3.1 not being desirable, that is simply your opinion, but apparently your opinion must be fact, not to mention it is somehow okay for you, to now criticize me lmao....?

Re: 3.1 V6, To Sell or Not to Sell?
Thanks for pushing me out of the way! I didn't see that coming. I guess I should have stroked him and his 3.4 and the whole hit and run could have been avoided. I truly do only want to know what the 3.1 is worth. I guess I shouldn't have spoke of the 350 swap on a V6 thread. My fault for thinking it my have a little to do with why I'm considering selling it and that other V6 owners might be interested in buying it.

Look at the title, then how you say you are "considering" the swap. Meaning undecided. He kinda tried to convince ya not to swap.
/confusion
Around here, it wouldn't get more than $300. A 350 long block can be bought for that price, so it better be good running & complete if ya want any decent cash for it.

It would probably end up veing cheaper and alot less time consuming to sell the car you have now, and go but one with a 350 in it.

Re: 3.1 V6, To Sell or Not to Sell?
Wow the tension this thread had created...I'm loving it lol...
Love this damn site !!!
Now my opinion, again its just my opinion so no one attack me for it, I fight back with puppy power DAMIT!
Ok after reading and reading(due to poor IQ, no joke) you kind of confused me but not much. So your restoring your camaro right, but swapping in a 350? And I assume your question is just how hard is it to sell or get rid the 3.1 right?
And what I picked up was that your for sure putting the V8 and not keeping the V6?
Now your in the V6 world(Threads) and my opinion is I'd keep the v6 because one your saving on gas, second suspension is better then v8(dont hate they admitted or you'll hear them say it also), third much more expensive doing the swap(look up threads, try a search and get some ideas), fourth some v6 guys on here can spank some of these v8 guys(after some mods of course, kind of funny to see a v6 spank a v8), fifth you have my room in the engine dept to play in or add on(maybe turbo...ect). But Jensen is right you wont get much for the 3.1, theres many out there...
P.S.
Craftman555 - why sell the V6 for a 350?(simple question bro) and you said why not? Uh, because I can (LOL bro your asking for heat responding like that LOL...be cool. Your alright wish you luck and keep me updated on your decision. )
Street Lethal - Hey man I would of done the same thing lol...your alright
//<86TA>\\ - Way to get Craft back man. I have to remind myself to add you to my friends list. For reals man.
Lets all get along now...

Re: 3.1 V6, To Sell or Not to Sell?
Thats true, for about the same amount of money and time you could just turbo your 6. The 3.1 is a strong engine, by the time 1990 rolled around the 60 V6 had been pretty well evolved and most weaknesses taken care of.
If I had money to swap a 350 I'd turbo my current engine. Besides, putting a turbo on is way more fun than re wiring everything with a new harness, getting the new engine to mount right, and all the other crap you'd have to do with a a swap. I believe someone around here is even making headers just for turbo purposes.

Re: 3.1 V6, To Sell or Not to Sell?
Well, I'm not for sure I'm even going to do a V8 swap. I just thought I'd start by finding out what the V6 could be worth and some opinions on it. I don't hate it, I'm just exploring options. I'm new to the third gen and finding out that the swap would be expensive. My thought was that even though the 3.1 is a strong runner, sometime soon it's going to die and I want to make sure the engine is A+ before I paint. If I'm going to pull it anyway, "to sell or not to sell?" and I guess "to rebuild or not to rebuild?". Don't be confused, I'm confused enough for everybody. That's why I'm asking for help.
I appreciate all the responses!
Entrig00, I also love this site. I'd have to agree with you, I was absolutely a smart ***. I owe Street Lethal an apology. Dude, I'm sorry!

Re: 3.1 V6, To Sell or Not to Sell?
I tried to sell a great running, complete 3.1 + 700R4 on here a few weeks ago, and there was very little interest. So, off to the scrap yard it went.
Like people mentioned above, it's about what people are willing to pay. Sometimes it's nothing...
