Stock 2.8 oil capacity
Hi guys,
So my manual says 4.5 quarts of oil in a 2.8. So i fill the oil filter and put four quarts in. Well I check my oil and it's hard to tell where it is exactly but it's past the full mark. Is 4.5 right, am I blind, what's going on?????

Re: Stock 2.8 oil capacity
yeah, i had the whole pan off, had to replace the oil pump. trust me it was empty. The car seems to be running fine, just don't wanna chance anything. But I'm afraid to just drain some oil out when i supposedly put in what it's supposed to have. And no my oil pan doesn't have any dents either
Thanks for the help guys

Re: Stock 2.8 oil capacity
It depends what size oil filter you use. When the 2.8 MPFI V6 was introduced in the third generation F body in 1985 the standard oil filter listed in the manuals was the AC Delco PF47 and the oil capacity was listed at 4 quarts. Around 1988 GM began using the long flow PF51, and later the updated PF52, containing an anti drain back valve, on the the 2.8. The long flow filter holds an exra half a quart of oil. If your using the PF 52 or any equivalent oil filter then the oil capacity should be 4.5 quarts. If you still using the shorter PF47 or an equivalent, then its 4 quarts.
