Stock swaybar blues

Since handling tends to be the strong point with v6's I thought I'd take a minute to share the difference between the stock v6 swaybar(s) with much better stuff.

First off most came with either a 30mm or 32mm solid front bar and a 18mm rear. Makes for decent control of body roll with 50/50 weight distribution, but just doesn't take advantage of what it has. Although some v6's didn't even come with a rear swaybar! Mine didn't originally so I've had a chance to drive it with the a$$ wobbling around without a rear swaybar, then with a 18mm rear which gave it decent control, and now with fat 36mm hollow core front and 26mm rear. What a difference! I can hammer turns and hold corners at higher speeds than I would've dared with the stock stuff. I think I have a little more than I need in the rear, but some shock tower braces up front should even things out.

Here's the front bars. Top is the 36mm bar.

Here's the rear bars. Bottom is the 26mm bar.

Re: Stock swaybar blues

Ive never heard of a 26mm rear. Largest I have seen is spohns 1"(25mm). Largest stock is 24mm.

rox. A solid is stronger, but then you add alot of weight. They have solid and hollow 34mm. The hollow 36mm IIRC was to replace the solid 34mm(equal strength).

Also, you need to adjust your bars for your use, driving style, roads your on, spring rates, etc. For me, the 24mm rear is to much, always pulling up a tire on the tight cornors we have here. So I downgraded to the 18mm(this car had a 21).

Throwing the largest you can find on is not ALWAYS the best.

Re: Stock swaybar blues

the 1le hollow bars worked great for me, but since i got a lil morte serious with the drag racing of the car i removed the front and only have the rear bar on.

I know you need to tune your suspension to your driving style. I was just wondering. I actually like how my camaro handles right now. I don't think I would worry about sway bars. I think excessively large sway bars can lead to snap oversteer/understeer.

Re: Stock swaybar blues

Sorry, it's a 25mm. Lucky jy find, huh? I plan on stiffening this thing up a lot, but I'm probably going to step down to a smaller rear bar all the same.

Re: Stock swaybar blues

I don't know if I have the right sway bar or not for my application, but I just replaced my LCAs and Panhard with aftermarket units and HOLY HECK, this thing is TIGHT in the rear! Feels sooo much better. If I was offering advise I would recommend doing the same for an IMMEDIATE improvement in handling, priro to scewing around with different swaybars...
