No DLC cde 12

My 91, 3.1 seems a little sluggish, idle speed is also high. I tried the paper clip trick across DLC pin 5 and 6. All I get is the 'Service Engine Soon' light flashing and no Code 12 (I waited about 3-4 mins). Have I got a problem with the diagnostics?

If you jumped the ALDL with the engine running, all you will get is flashing, with no codes. The key has to be on with the engine stopped (not running) to flash the codes.

Well, not to sound too much like an a$$, where did you expect the trouble codes to appear? The SES light flashes to put out the codes... Flash, pause, flash flash, long pause, flash pause flash flash--code 12 twice... And then, in my case, I get... long pause after the last code 12, flash flash flash, pause, flash flash flash flash flash (code 35, ECM unable to regulate idle speed)...

Re: No DLC cde 12

I'm watching for the numbers to display on the dash. Is that right? All I get is the SES light flashing. Should I be counting the flashes instead of an actual number appearing.

Re: No DLC cde 12

Ok, I got it. You count the number of times the SES light flashes. Duh. I was sitting there waiting for some numbers to appear - shows what I know. Anyway got both code 44 and 45. o2 sensor I believe. Strange because I know it was recently replaced.
Thanks for your help MaverickH1L
