Got a code 32

I got a code 32 yesterday and I've been googling every since. Is there anything I can try b4 I spend nearly 300 for a new egr? My 3.1 only has 96,000 on it.

Re: Got a code 32

clean up the passages and check for proper operation of the egr first. blocked egr passages can cause those problems

Re: Got a code 32

You should be able to test the egr operation by idling the ingine and physically pushing up on the bottom of the EGR diaphram. It should almost stall the engine.

Re: Got a code 32

He can't use that method ToeBird. He has a 92 and all 3.1l's 90-92 used a Digital EGR Valve.

OhioTemplar, you should look in my old thread "92 3.1 EGR Problems @ 9 mpg Code 32".

Look at the Pics, and clean everything, including the reburner line that goes from the side of the manifold and right under the EGR, to the side of the throttle body.

Also, don't try to block it off as I did. Being digital, the computer will always look for it, and you won't gain any benefeit. (sp?)

BTW: The search function works pretty good... *hint**hint*

Aww lame. Sorry for the misinformation... I've never had a 3.1 or seen the digital valve. Good luck though!

Don't spend $300 for a new one...you can get 'em for $5 from a junkyard.

Re: Got a code 32

Ok, I went through that whole thread.
QUESTIONS: will I get a check engine light during highway driving if I block off the egr?
And also, 92RS3.1 - Do you think I could buy a block-off plate from you? I don't have anything to make one.
Right now I'm getting 230 Miles per tank (running it till it dies) - But last year b4 I got the code I was getting 28 MPG on plus gas. What kind of highway fuel economy can I expect from this based on my excellent fuel economy b4 the egr failure? The same as I was getting b4? Less?

I havn't gotten into it yet, but I would get some seafoam and just soak everything in it. It's good stuff.

Re: Got a code 32

Confucius101: To clean the carbon buildup, I have used lots of Carb Cleaner.

OhioTemplar: It depends. Could you get a pic of your EGR Valve for me. I'm just wanting to make sure which one it is. Vacuum or Digital?

I have access to 89t-top_maro's car. I can make a plate for both of them. So if you need one just tell me which type it is. I'll prolly PM you soon about mailing it to you.

btw, if it is vacuum operated, you will only lose 1-2mpg.

Re: Got a code 32

What kind of highway mileage do you think I'll get blocking off my digital egr? I'm about to do some ford or accel injectors, so it'll probably get bumped back up from the nozzle design of those anyway.
