distributor base not flush intake base

There is a small gap (1/16" to 1/8") between the dizzy base and the intake base when I reinstalled it.

It's my understanding that this is not a problem with the 1990 V6 3.1L engine and adjusting the oil pump shaft with a screwdriver does not apply.

Do you guys agree with this? I don't want to screw this up. Is the small gap ok ?

Re: distributor base not flush intake base

The dizzy should sit against the block.

I can't think of a reason why it would sit up only a 1/16 to 1/8 inch.

The v6 does not use a slot to drive the oil pump, it uses a hex, 5/16" hex IIRC, but with the dizzy installed that far it is engaging the oil pump drive shaft.

It might be a good idea to pull it out and make sure there is nothing wedged or no build up of contaminants inside the dizzy gear.

i had to persuade the dizzy with a few taps with the rubber mallet. the car started and ran fine. i forgot to look at the oil pressure. i'll check the timing next.
