Pre Oil question

I am trying to pre oil my motor after a rebuild. My question is if the pushrods are not adjusted just right will it not pre oil or does that matter about the oiling?

Re: Pre Oil question

They probably should at least be tight I imagine so the oil can travel to and through them.

Re: Pre Oil question

No, they don't need to be tight, just snug.

You will need to turn the engine over (socket and ratchet on the crank serves this purpose well), to open up the oil passages to all the lifters. the oil passes through the lifters and then to the pushrods, to feed the rockers and spray on the valve springs and guides.

Re: Pre Oil question

you did make sure the inside of the pushrods were cleaned while eng. was apart . if not they can plug up with sludge , blocking oil flow .

Re: Pre Oil question

when u adjusted the pushrods did u set to 0 lash means snug not tight so its not pushing the pushrod into the lifter and also rotate the engine as adjusting each cylender.. also did u fill the lifters with oil before u installed them?

Re: Pre Oil question

I blew the pushrods out and made sure nothing was in them. I think i got the lifters full of oil. i poured oil on them when i put them in. I adjusted the rockers the way the hanynes manule said to. Adjust half of them one way and rotae engnice and do the other half.
