What is ALDL?

What is the ALDL and where to find it on our cars? Is there a pic of this I could see? I adjusted my minimum air and I thought I did it right, but apparently not as I still have too low of an idle when in drive. Does this make sense?

Re: What is ALDL?
It's the diagnostic plug for your ecm. Under the dash.

Assembly Line Diagnostic Link (ALDL). On your '92 it is tucked up above the fuse box. Far left of steering column, under (actually above) the small cover.

Re: What is ALDL?
ok, and I'm supposed to put a paperclip in the upper left hole and the one beside it. As in, looking at it as it drops down, the first 2 at the top left. My idle is really funny, but smooth. I did this already and cleaned the IAC. I'm going to buy a new IAC next week. So it does this - when cold it hangs out at 1200 then drops to 750 when it warms up. It will stay at 750 in park but it will flick up and down once every 5-10 seconds from 750 to 850 and back. Somtimes once quick, sometimes twice quick. IT IS NOT INDICATIVE OF THE ENGINES IDLE! The engine is running smooth and smelling clean. When I'm ideling along in town the idle stays at 1200. This all could be normal, I'm just afraid I messed up my tach. It was flicking before but not this bad.

Re: What is ALDL?
Sounds normal. It's programmed to idle ridiculously high until it warms up. Idle speed tends to vary occasionally as the ecm tries to maintain a particular rpm using (comparatively) crude controls, but rapid 'flicking' of the guage alone sounds like a bad connection or rf interference. Try cleaning the tach plug at the distributor, check the sp plug wire routing to make sure they're not contacting other wires.

Re: What is ALDL?
Could be. Try to keep plug wires separate from all other wires and contact points if possible. Basically anything that it could arc to.
