3.4 hybrid

I am looking at buying a 88 RS

its all black, chrome mags, ttops, perfect interior and decent paint. THe only thing that bothers me is the engine
its a 3.1/3.4 hybrid. He said he kept the 3.1 block, put on the 3.4 heads, etc on from a 93ish firebird with about 30k on it. The cars been sitting for a few years, said it runs prefectly fine just needs a fuel pump

is This engine reliable? how fast is it?
also, is this car worth 1200?

I own a 1989 cavalier convertible with a swapped in 3400 from a GAGT, as long as its faster than this I'll be happy. Anyone know what kind of HP this engine would push? Thanks

Re: 3.4 hybrid

All of the iron heads are the same no matter displacement. So really you have a 3.1 in your car. I believe that he 3.1 only put out 140HP stock.

Re: 3.4 hybrid

jesus, thats a lot slower than what I was hoping for. My car with the stock 3.1 was not fast enough for my liking

I may have to reconsider this, thanks.
Also, how reliable are these, and is this a good deal?

Re: 3.4 hybrid

I paid $2600 for my bird 1yr ago with 89k miles (only has 89k now ). Did 17.1 @ 75mph in the quarter bone stock and 17yrs old. The question is: "Is the car worth it to you?" Click on my garage icon under my username to see what I got.

Re: 3.4 hybrid

No way in hell a genI 3.1 will be quicker than a J-body with a 3400 swap. Most 3.1 F-bodies run somwhere between a 16.9 to an 18, that I have seen.

A stock 1st or 2nd gen J-body with a stock 3400 swapped in, untuned will get between a 14.5 and a 15.0.

You could always, build a real hybrid in the F-body.
