Pulling the relay won't help either because you have a relay bypass built into the Oil Pressure switch that gives power to the Fuel Pump when you get oil pressure.
The best way I've found to do it is to crawl under the back of the car and disconnect the harness at the tank. I've never been able to get my car to die by pulling the fuse maked Fuel Pump in the fuse box.

Well... Hmm. Here's what happened:
First off, we just unplugged the fuel pump relay, pulled the plugs and cranked it a few times to build oil pressure. We replaced the plugs, plugged the relay back in and tried to start it up (For those that don't know, it was a brand new remanufactured motor.). It cranked and cranked and would not start. One time It did start but was very rough and died in seconds. We thought it was the timing so we started turning the distributor. It got better each little bit we turned it. We got to the point were the cap was touching the intake, and it would start and idle, but rough. I'm guessing that somehow the distributor got one tooth off when we put it in. And that I should've put it in before I tightened the torque converter bolts. Any ideas? Tomorrow I was going to pull the distributor and put it back in one tooth over and try to time it. Any ideas?

Oh yeah. Couple of questions:
1. Where is 0 on the timing plate on the harmonic balancer? Mines all coroded and the only number I can see is 12 in the middle of it. If someone has a picture of theirs that'd be a great help.
2. I know I have to disconnect something between the distributer and the electronics to time the motor. What is it?
Thanks again.

Re: What fuse disables the fuel pump?
You want to set tht timing to 10*, which is in the middle of the plate. Mine is corroded too but each mark is 2* so I counted down from 20*
The plug you want to disconnect is over by the blower motor. It is a single wire that comes out of the wiring harness and just has a connector on it so that you can disconnect it. I think that it is brown with a pink stripe??

0 on the timing tab is the big notch. If you can't see the 10* mark, then you'll ahve to use a timing gun with the advance feature to get it right, otherwise you'll just be guessing.
